One thing that I just learned the hard way is the value of manually upgrading wordpress and my theme. After a recent upgrade of both, my homepage went blank. The rest of the pages were fine.

With a manual upgrade it is so much easier to roll back to a functioning level until they fix the bugs in the newest one.

Also, if you use a a plugin like Theme Test Drive, you can work on your entire website in a theme without changing your current one.

Hi Alex,
Just received your most recent E-Mail. After careful review I want you to know that I will be following your blog much closer in the future.

I manage 11 blogs that are tech intensive, and blogs are all that I do. As I work on upgrades for mine or others, my number one problem is “database breaks”. They are time intensive to repair without loss of information. It is imperative for your readers to understand the importance of proper database management. I was glad to see that this was your number one step above. A clean database makes for a happy upgrade. Thank You for a well written post instead of another affiliate product pitch.

No, it doesn’t – this issue not present everywhere and should onl;y be used if you have the actual problem.

Alex, Is there a plug-in or other program that helps to backup (and then restore) wordpress, the database and anything else needed in case something goes wrong in the upgrade. Chris Cobbs last blog post..Who Do You Learn From On The Internet?

Hi Alex,

1)what do you think of the WordPress Automatic upgrade plugin 1.2.2? I used it and the upgrade was smooth. Agreed, that I did not have much content on my blog as I am relatively new to wordpress or blogging for that matter.

2) I observed that you don’t accept paypal for your expert wordpress, any reason for that? My second question on the same is that do you accept USPS money order as payment? if yes where do you want it mailed?
