James,

I'm sorry - what you are asking for a very basics of the WordPress. Some of it is covered on pages of this blog and all you have to do is a bit of search. Please put a bit of effort and you will find answers right here...

<b>Comments Closed. This post is old and offer is ended for now</b>

I'm lost. I have created a blog on the AnimationBlogspot site and have done pretty well w/ posting blogs, pictures, videos etc. Now that I'm getting comfortable, I want to do more but am having all sorts of issues. I hope you can help answer the following, possibly foolish questions. Thanks!

* I can't find my wp-content/plugins directory to add plugins. I've read bits about it regarding using an ftp site, which I dont think i had to do initially when setting this up.

* When I post blogs, I want readers to be able to click on finnfactory where it lists the author to send me an email or see my email address.

* how do i add on a digg and other tip of widgets?

* how do i turn off comments on all or some of my posts?

Again, thank you.

<em>Finnfactory's last blog post..<a href='http://finnfactory.animationblogspot.com/2008/04/16/who-is-your-dan-decarlo/' rel="nofollow">Who is your Dan DeCarlo?</a></em>

Since upgrading to WP 2.5 I have had terrible problems.

I even had a friend who knows what he is doing, do a clean and fresh install for me.

I have been shutdown 3 times now by Host Gator for exceeding 25% CPU usage. I have very small, personal blogs.

Does this make sense?

The problem from my eyes is happening with some glitch where I am getting a script error when trying to start a new post. Everything hangs and is very slow.

It happens in IE and FF but I can use Safari without it.

Again I have had a few people look into this and they have not figured it out yet.

It is extremely frustrating because it all started when I upgraded. Never had a problem before that.

http://cuzoogle.com is my main blog......it was down for 2 days this week because of the CPU usage. It got resolved enough to get it back up but I still get the script error.

http://chocolatedogblog.com/
http://michaelcusden.com/

are the other two that are currently down for over usage. They only get like 100 views a day.

They don't have the script error and I am currently trying to find out from Host GAtor what is up.

With the small amount of traffic I get I don't see how I can be using that much CPU time.

I have tried removing all plugins, trying it out with default theme and the script error is still there.

http://cuzoogle.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/errorscreen1.gif

I am not a coder, I don't mess around in my backend, I just upgraded to 2.5 and the night mare started.

if anyone has any idea please let me know

Hi Alex

+1 with Bronco :-)

Don't really have problems with Wordpress (also I had a lot at first when installing!! spend nights fixing code, I loved it :-) ), just wanted to say that I am really in admiration of your offer here - dedicating time to others freely and giving back what you have received in such way is just wonderful and I am sad to say that there are less and less people who are willing to do so around us.

You trully represents what being part of a community means and I do hope that people will respect such a kind gesture (yeah, people can be really asses when it comes to getting something for free :-) )

I had the same problem of over CPU usage.

The webhost blocked me a couple of times and refused to let me in the third time.

It was shared webhosting.

I had to shift all my sites to another webhost and lost some of my WordPress blogs because of my lack of knowledge in shifting wordpress posts.

1. There was a spam attack.

I learnt how to create a robot.txt file to block that spammer.

This worked and I was ok.

2. Problem repeated - this time the hacker was able to create "warm" something... sorry I don't know ... some virus

The webhost blocked me. They killed the worm

3. The attack was repeated. The webhost could not advice me. They did not know how it was happening or did not care to inform me.

I shifted to another webhost - <strong><a href="http://www.lunarpages.com/id/webspace" rel="nofollow">Lunar Pages</a></strong>.

After joining Lunar pages I got the message a specific kernel file was created within my help desk folder.

I found and deleted it. Deleted the OS Ticket help desk I was using.

I changed my way of contacting my subscribers.

I checked all the sites for hackers' folders created without my knowledge.

So far ok. No problems.

Lunar Pages gives me 15000 GB transfer and unlimited add-on domains and they have not yet told me anything about CPU usage.

I keep my fingers crossed and hope there won't be any more problem.

Sue,

I wouldn't disable too much if I were you ...

Their technical services should be able to provide you with output of the "ps" command and point out which exact processes are consuming CPU with your user ID. As was the case with my blog it identified the two plugins I had to disable and since both are utilizing AJAX - it makes sense (processor intensive).

Tell them to provide you with info on WHY they think your blog is the top consumer and details on WHAT is doing it. As SysAdmins they have to be able to provide you with this info.

Thanks for the reply. I did have post ratings enabled, though not in use and deactivated and deleted it. I also suspect top posts by category, another one that was activated but not in use. I've disabled all other unecessary ones, and am waiting word from the business manager if it helped.

If I was at any other host beside the one I'm at, I'd be wondering if the creation of their new "business class" is behind this. They've always been known for honesty, but still, I have to wonder, since it was suggested I move to that level. I never thought my non-monetized, very very niche site would cause so much problems on shared hosting.

Sue,

I just had similar issue with mine last weekend and 2 plugins identified as source were "wp-users online" and "post rating" I had to disable those plugins although I NEVER had issues with them before.

This one is weird and since I don't have access to the server itself - only thing we can do is to address the issue as it comes up. Sorry as I don't have the answer either way for you because this one is a mystery to me as well - why would plugins that worked fine for over a year become CPU hog ...
