I am sure you have heard about internet marketing, web marketing and all the other buzzwords that describe making money online but what exactly is “Web Marketing 2.0“?

First before we attempt to truly define Web Marketing 2.0 let’s look at how the phrase or term originated. You noticed I said we just then right? I did that because this is an interactive article which requires me teaching and some thinking and deep consideration on your part, so let’s get to it!

I did a search of Websters Online Dictionary and there was no entry for Web Marketing 2.0 so where does that leave us?

Allow me to break it down:

1) Web = The internet, the worldwide web, cyberspace and most recently, the blogosphere.

2) Marketing = Dictionary.com says this:

  • a. the act of buying or selling in a market.
  • b. the total of activities involved in the transfer of goods from the producer or seller to the consumer or buyer, including advertising, shipping, storing, and selling.

3) 2.0 = 2.0 in and of itself means little however, combined with Web Marketing,
Web Marketing 2.0 takes on an entirely new meaning.

O.K. I know I have not defined it for you but we are getting there so, read on.

Some self proclaimed web marketing experts have this to say, “Web Marketing 2.0 does not have a clear-cut definition or set of guidelines to truly define it, in essence it is emerging terminology in an evolutionary definitional process.” or “The term “Web 2.0″ means different things to different people. In some circles, it refers to the emergence of social networking and personalization as the new frontier of the Internet.”

As you can see if we can nail down a definition we can put this new way of marketing to work for ourselves and use it to our advantage, does that sound good to you?

Me too, so let’s continue.

Web Marketing 2.0 is the act of using, employing, and leveraging new and emerging technologies such as blogging, social networking, as well as content management and creation to gain name recognition for yourself, brand, product or service in order to promote an agenda or profit from such efforts.

Whew, that was a mouthful huh? Can you wrap your head around that concept?

If you can grasp the importance of using and implementing Web Marketing 2.0 in your life and business you will be well on your way to fame, fortune and prosperity.
