WordPress 2.2 Theme Release – FH-Freedom-Reloaded

fh-reloaded1.jpgFH-Freedom-Reloaded is a re-work and modification of “FH Freedom blue 0.2” theme released by Frank Helmschrott. I was very impressed by the theme but have found that it was incompatible with WordPress 2.2 and widgets system integrated into new version. There was also an issue with many things being in German and some CSS issues.

To make story short – I have adopted the theme for one of my projects, fixed the functions to make it fully compatible with latest [tag-tec]WordPress[/tag-tec] release and modified columns layout and CSS styling to suit my needs. Unfortunately I have decided not to continue developing project it was intended for and since the theme is ready – I’m releasing it for your enjoyment.

Theme Features

  • Fully compatible with WordPress 2.2 and widgets system.
  • System has a left column for content and smaller right sidebar. I have done a mod that I personally found useful – right sidebar has actually 4 columns: 1 top column that uses full width of the sidebar; 2 side-by-side columns for smaller widgets and ads; 1 bottom column that also uses full width of the sidebar.
  • CSS was modified to make it clean (as much as I managed, css is not my strongest skill) and fully compatible and tested with Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.4, IE6 and IE7. Based on my analysis this covers about 97% of all browsers and I didn’t test it in any others, which should work as long as they are properly process css.
  • No additional plugins required to make it run properly.

Screenshots

Since I don’t have a theme running in live environment I’m instead presenting you series screenshots that display most of the features that theme present. All screenshots were taken from site that uses WordPress 2.2 with multitude of plugins installed without any issues. Simply click on image below to view the screenshots gallery.

Some Known Limitations And Support

  • Theme is using a top navigation bar for all your pages so it obviously has a limited number of pages you can include.
  • Each navbar button is of fixed width and you will have to watch the length of the Page Name to make sure it fits the size.
  • Top bar is not required to be used for widgets. Was created as I was intending to include AdSense code using Text Widget but if you decide that you don’t need it, simply don’t put anything in Top Column and it will be ignored by theme.
  • CSS issues. I haven’t found any with exception of dashed line in sidebar for listed items, sometimes you might end-up with couple of them, one after another, but since CSS is not my strongest skill – you are on your own. It works properly but any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Any issues you will find, please post your comment here so I could address them. If you are a css master and find any issues with my file – fixes will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks albert!

I loved that template as well that is why I worked on re-working it to make compatible. But I also like my current template and that is the only reason “Reloaded” is not present here :)

I’m using it. I added a tagline and also my flickr to the bottom but I like it. I hate to stumble it because I want to keep it for myself. ;)

Your download site doesn’t seem to be running. I was pretty disappointed, as I wanted to use this theme for a new blog I’m building. :(

      Leigh,

Thanks for heads up! It seems that divshare I used for download is currently down … go figure …

I have provided a local download of the file, just click on big download button to get the theme.

      Enjoy,

    hi alex.

    again I am albert.

After using this theme its very simple and great theme. but some of bug I faced.

    1. Site loading is too slow. (even 1 MPps speed it takes 45 to 50 seconds)
    2. Field Under tag is not included.
    3. Tag Line is not displayed on the Header page.

But I love this theme for its design. So I hav planned to alternate this theme for fast loading. But I don’t know the php so much.

Can you Please modify this theme like http://www.problogger.net/

Can you help me for this bugs?

    • TheSpot-er (971 comments.) says:

      Albert,

Theme released AS IS, I have no plans to do anything with it at this point, sorry … I simply have no time for it. But here are some possible solutions:

      1. Disable all plugins and see if it still loads slow, I can bet that it is one of the plugins making it load so slow, activate your plugins one by one and see which one attributes to the slow loading.
      2. I don’t understand what exactly you mean by that one …
      3. Yes, it will not be displayed … theme I released is a mod of original theme that wasn’t compatible with latest version of WP and had some css issues. I fixed those and unfortunately as part of the fix I had to remove tagline … internet explorer had some big issues with Header portion of the theme and the choice was to either completely remove everything in include image only or do what I have done – fix so that Site Name is displayed ..

Problogger.net has paid a professional designer for that theme and I’m not a pro …. I can work my way through code and do fixes and modifications but what you ask for is very time consuming. If you are looking for something like that I recommend you hire professional.

Hopefully you can point me in the right direction. My comments bubble is all messed up. How do I fix it?

  10. Mark (2 comments.) says:

If you are finding your site is loading slow with this theme, and you are using WP-Cache plugin, try disabling it and see what happens. I did this and no problem since.

Very nice and clean theme same minimalistic theory applied on this one and am happy its free other than this its fast loading because its not having any bulky images the css sheet is very simple easy to understand and easy to customize the side bar is having a loot of space for any size of ads banners or whatever you name it (i love the wider sidebar) overall the theme is A-grade theme. i’ll edit this theme for my personal blog and alter to my own needs (obviously footer link intact)

    Thanks Alex

i think this a great versions and not prone to hack because i’ve heard that the earlier versions of wordpress are easily accessed by the hackers…. the feature of improved theme ensures security so i am gonna try this out.

Good looking theme – its simple and clean looking, which is what I prefer. Don’t like the cluttered look which many bloggers still adopt, but saying that each to their own I guess. Thumbs up and thanks for the download.
