Great post. I totally agree that the first impression is very important. On my blog I’ve tried to keep things simple. Meaning not a lot of distracting ads within the main content area. Though I do have some text ads I’ve tried to make sure that they flow with the content and not take away from it. I can’t stand needing to scroll through a bunch of ads to find the next post. Drives me nuts.

I don’t believe I have a “fast food” blog but I think I still need to get to the “fine dining” stage. My question is how do I get some dinner conversation going. I have traffic coming in but no one wants to talk (except for those darn spammers). Any ideas that I can use to improve my blog?

Very interesting analogy. Not something I would have ever thought of, but you do make some excellent points. You only have one chance to make a first impression whether its in a restaurant or on you blog.

There is a huge number of them … a prime example would be “build for AdSense” splogs … while they do deliver some form of information - I can only compare it to the lowest nomination of fast food joint …
