Twitteriffic Information

I decided to go out on a limb and provide you with some information I really think you must know! Twitter is no longer just a social network but a tool you simply must integrate into your online schedule. And yet, a poll I have running on my blog shows that many of you still not seeing the importance of the tool:

I know that I myself for the longest time thought it was nothing but a toy for adults, kind of like a replacement for the text message addiction our teenagers suffer from, until I seen the impact Twitter creates!

Your and my success largely depend on using the right tools to save time and also the right tools to reach right people – Twitter is one of those tools! And I have decided to heavily implement it on my blog and shared how in this post:

But obviously that since I’m a rather recent “convert to twitter” I wanted to share some relevant information from people most of us know – and you don’t, consider following them on twitter and reading their blogs on regular bases, some great info there!

While there are many more posts and informative articles on the topic – I have chosen what I personally found beneficial to me and what helps me to truly turn this into a tool that helped me boost not only traffic but also social influence and gives me easy access to people that I would probably never had a chance to talk to!

Twitter is all about building your personal social network, relationships and using it the right way will have Huge Impact on your business in 2009.

And you can start building that influence by leaving a good comment below and include your Twitter Id – yes, twitter is integrated into my blog!

I just spent all of the last weekend setting up Twitter for my press release service. I ended up passing the RSS feeds (for all 37 main categories!) through TwitterFeed and then setting up individual accounts for each category… phew, what a big job…

    Here’s the main page: http://www.pressrelease001.com.....es-twitter

And here’s an article I wrote as a companion piece:

    HI Alex
I am glad you like Twitter I do too! Thanks for the link to great Twitter info. I predict Twitter to be the Business tool of the year for PR and Branding for Business from all walks of life as well as making you great friends and contact from all over the planet. I have been using Twitter for a while and find it super addictive. The first year I posted some updates and did not pay much attention to it thinking it was like many other Social Network out there, and I did not try to make friends. But in the last few months I have been using it more and made over 5,150 friends and contacts in a few months and increased the Traffic to my blog by a % many time over what it was before. Twitter is also a great marketing tool and I now use it in that way very successfully and the money is starting to flow in from it. I would encourage everybody to take advantage of this great tool that Twitter is to it full advantage.

I couldn’t disagree more about the usefulness of Twitter. Whilst I have spent quite a bit of time investigating it from both a research perspective and as a ‘typical user’. I have yet to find it as a provider of much more than noise. Even those whose blogs I may be interested in following, tend to send out twitterings (I hate the term tweets) about the mundane aspects of their life.

I’m sure however, that in years to come it will be an invaluable resource for social scientists about live at the beginning of the 21st century, including the regularity of our bowel movements.

Thanks for commend and sharing your opinion David. One of the posts I have provided here leads to Jim Connolly blog – you should look at his posts and once you do a bit of reading – you will see that most of his traffic comes from social networking, mainly twitter.

And here is a second reason. Lynn Terry is one of the super affiliates and makes more money online then most dream off at this point. Have a look at this post on her blog: http://www.clicknewz.com/1826/.....spiration/ where she describes her promotional efforts for Q4 of 2008.

I’m not here to convince you but to simply perhaps add some additional information so you don’t disregard something just because it didn’t quite worked for you. Perhaps some more learning is needed to make it more effective?

I guess we are disagreeing about 2 different things. My comment is more about Twitter content rather than Twitter as a driver of traffic. When it comes to driving traffic I am a believer in focusing ongood content rather than focusing on the traffic (although you wouldn’t guess by looking at the content of my site). Obviously it is necessary to make sure your site can be indexed, and is being indexed, and it helps to be active in both the blogosphere and amongst social network sites, but ultimately the focus should be on content.

I recently started using twitter regularly and agree that this tool has proved invaluable. I not only have seen an increase in activity to my site and inquiries from target market, but have now also found it to be the quickest way of being alerted to industry trends. Yes, sometimes you have to filter out some background noise but all and all I think it is fantastic.

So true. Regardless of the social tool you are using, whether it is twitter, facebook, fastpitch etc. it is important that you are selective of who you “follow” and “friend” so that you can keep the activity targeted. Like anything else it comes down to quality, not quantity.

    Hi Alex,
Like you I have just started on Twitter to see what it’s all about and what is good is that it is leading me to explore the other Web 2.0 social sites. While I see the value in it I also can see the downfall. Ideally in interent marketing you want to reach a target market especially if you are in niche. If twitter allowed keyword search for partners instead of names that would be better. Maybe there is an app or program that will do that but haven’t found it.

The other is the cart and horse analogy. If you have brand name recognition in your niche then are you dragging your followers into Twitter behind you. It all comes down to traffic. If your followers are not into your niche then when they visit your site they won’t make that mistake again.

So while you might end up with 10,000 followers eventually, how many of them are actually interesterd in your niche? They may be interested in you and your comments.

In your case Twitter is an absolute must since a lot of people who Twitter also have some sort of blog. Some of the blogs they do have absolutely need EWP instead of having sites on blogger.com.

OK, I’ve answered my own question about finding people in your niche on twitter. You can use http://www.twellow.com/ to find them. It’s that simple

For several of you who question the problem of “twittering” away valuable time each day, this problem is dealt with directly on a site I discovered a few days ago. It is run by Michelle MacPhearson at http://www.socialmediadaily.com. She has just published a free eBook (Blueprint) which specifically lays out a rigorous regime to gain control over Twitter and use it to your great advantage. Highly recommended. And I can see that hanging around Alex’s site is also going to be a great help in my steep learning curve about social webbing.

This is my first time at your blog and I’m very impressed. I can tell you put a lot of work into it.

Thanks for the twitter resources. Many of them I didn’t know about, except for Darren’s blog (which I love!!).

    Hi Alex,

I’ve been following your blogging tips for a few months now and have learnt so much – thank you!

I’m just beginning to get into the social media minefield and, yes, I find it extremely time-consuming. Hopefully, this will be relatively short term while everything is being set up.

What I find disconcerting is just how many people use Twitter purely to send marketing messages, spending no time attempting to “build relationships”. Am I right in thinking that a blatant marketing approach will not result in the desired outcome (targeted traffic -> customers -> sales), or am I missing something?

    Regards,

    Nira

I signed up a looong time ago and basically ignored it, just started being active for the last week and its amazing, wish I had actually used it earlier, now I use it all day. Even if I dont tweet its nice to see all the incoming tweets from the folks I follow

Excellent information on Twitter. Thanks. I recently started with it. Also, I just blogged about the keynote speaker at a recent conference. He said that twitter was a major factor in helping him build his business, reportedly over $50 million in sales. He emphasized how yes, too many people are wasting time on the social networks and not monetizing their efforts. But clearly, when there is a focus on monetization with proper tactics utilized, there can be substantial benefits.

You bring up some very useful information and ideas on how to use twitter and the importance of creating a presence that can attract and grow both web site traffic as well as create meaningful and useful relationships in the process. I know my twitter presence will become more profound as I uncover the tricks to create that social media following we all hear and see.

    Thank you for the information

Twitter really is no longer just a social networking tool. It’s also a marketing tool. A lot of people had used it for marketing, which I can say is a great thing.
