I have a number of niche blogs that are on the 6-8 week update schedule and they haven’t seen any drop off in traffic. The only exception was one where a couple of stronger competitors entered the niche. I have one in particular that gets around 800 unique visitors a day and it hasn’t been updated since November.

The important thing to understand about these blogs is that they get 95-98% of their traffic from Google and Yahoo searches for their primary keywords and related long tail terms. If you’re not getting that percentage level of targeted search volume then sustaining the traffic will be difficult and will require a greater frequency of posting.

I’ve found that posting quantity and visitor volume only correlate on blogs that get a lot of social traffic. Blogs that are in keyword focused niches don’t require much beyond an occasional (every 6-8 weeks) new post or updated post to maintain their traffic volume. Traffic volume can even grow if you continue to build links for the blog.
