Have around 20,000 followers. Over half have not 'tweeted' in over 6 months. I assume the real world called and they went. over ½ of blogs (and web sites over all) appear to last less than 6 months to a year before they are abandoned. Same appears to be true with twitter accounts. It is said there are over 200,000 blogs on the net, yet 3/4ths of them have not had a post on them in over 6 months. So do they count? If 3/4ths of my followers have not logged in for 30 days, do I really have 20,000 followers? So even if you get a million followers in a month, within 6 months most have stopped logging in so don't read your messages anyway.
So while Twitter says they have over 6 million users, what they mean is they have over 6 million accounts. I doubt there is much more than a million 'users'. Paying to get users or joining programs seems like a temporary way to get a message out at best. In a short time, it is only accounts that are 'following' you, not people. When I check the stats of followers, 3/4ths of them have not even logged into their accounts in over 3 months. It is mostly smoke and mirrors, it would appear.
Better to have a small number of followers and if what you say is interesting enough, they may bother to log in to read it. If not, then it is just empty accounts following you as Twitter apparently never deletes abandoned accounts. Just ones that someone takes the time to delete themselves. Even then the count shows up under your 'followers' for 30 more days.

Old posts are interesting to read since internet time is kind of like dog years which makes this post about 5 years old!

I came looking here to find out a good reason, or any reason really, why one should have 1,000's of Twitter followers unless you really are an expert in a field and your tweets are the value as opposed to the conversation that most of us have on Twitter.

If anyone has a idea, I'd love to hear it -

Honestly, I think after reading everybody's comments which are valid, we need to keep an open mind on the tweetergetter agenda, the goal from my understanding is to get a significant number of followers, that's it. I got nothing more than that, and honestly I think it is doing a great job. To say its not good practice then we need to extend that attitude to Corporate America as well.

I get countless number of e-mails of stuff I don't need. Nonetheless, it shows like clock work every morning, it is estimated that Corporate America spent a staggering $400,000,000 dollars on e-mail marketing alone. Here we have a genius writing a script to attract more buzz to your profile regardless if they stay or not, just to get people to even hear what you have to say is sometimes a daunting task.

I mean if you want to follow somebody because they make you laugh then watch TV, or goto the movies, or even you tube for that matter. To me that is a silly reason to follow someone, conversely if we had Donald Trump giving business advice then that would be something I want to follow. Even if people leave because they don't want to follow you that is fine, because the idea to me is to get people engaged into what you have to offer, whether they like it or not.

In conclusion, we should not slam the creator of Tweeter Getter because he has identified another avenue to engage website visitors. If your a business owner you should be praising him, if your just a user then you should be thanking him because he may have given you exposure to people that you may have never met on twitter, and because of that script it can stimulate opportunity. That is my word on this subject!

Lill,

My personal apologies if you joined from my recommendation. Sometimes we get caught up in idea before evaluating all implications and as result we get backlash. Unfortunately I don't know how to turn it off. Don't worry about who follows you - if you feel that a conversation with that person doesn't add value to you - don't follow back! You are not obligated to follow back everyone who follows you.

No one is mentioning the most important factor when considering whether Tweeter Getter is good or evil... the factor is: "Will you be able to discontinue it if you don't like it?" So far, the answer is "NO!". I'm angry at the person who recommended it. It's just silly. The only followers I'm getting from it are either selling junky old hot air or talking dirty. I would be embarrassed for anyone to look at my "followers".

How do I TURN IT OFF???

The point about social media is that they are, er, social.

Automated crapola viral shenanigans are not building a relationship with you so how would they work?

As Andy said this is a pyramid scheme and all you have to do to size up whether something makes sense is ask, "How does this add value to other people?"

All The Best

I just signed up on the twitter band wagon 5 days ago...and the first day I was on someone tweet me with tweetgetter. Being a noob to twitter I figure okay, give it a shot. Because frankly in my opinion Twitter is a "Motley Crue"/flotsam and jetsam of miscellaneous info that just blows right by me. In the few days I have been on twitter I know have 245 followers and following 255. I managed to track down a couple of people I was interested in following some so called IM guru's but their tweets are as useless as random followers. They are either promoting some crap JV partners stuff that they have probably never used themselves first e.g. recently Frank Kern's Mass Control 2.0 launch recently or some other junk. Since I have been on twitter I have made one decent contact. I have 57 updates and tried many times to create some dialogue with people I am following or people who are following me. I truly don't understand the value of twitter as anything more than a "ticker tape" of junk info. You can't record any of it or sort it out. As far as I can see the only people that will benefit for twitter are well known people and maybe lesser know people with huge following regardless of why they are following you. So in my opinion tweetergetter may help me find people I wouldn't have found any other way...on twitter. Now I do like it when I find a good blog or website of someone who has a twitter following me app or plugin...but still unless I am watching twitter 24/7 I would like missing anything worth reading or following.

Does anyone know of a app that can be used on twitter to record specific peoples tweets through the day, so at the end of the day I could review them?
