Tweeter Getter – Interesting Concept. Your Thoughts?
Reading a blog of one of my favorite bloggers and marketers Jack Humphrey I found interesting post on new Twitter Strategy – Twitter Getter.
Needless to say that promise behind the idea got my attention and action and I just wonder – What Do You Think About It?
IMPORTANT UPDATE: please read the comments section before you act on this one – some great points brought up by commenters!
Looks like its using the new variation of the script I have implemented to allow people download my “Quit Tweet Your Blog” report and appears to be effective.
I would love to hear your personal opinion on usage of these scripts!

The system has proven its value in the past, so there’s no doubt about it you will gain more followers.
I only wonder if this is the way to get ‘active’ followers that will stay, instead of unfollowing instantly. But then again, that’s the question you need to ask yourself with every new follower. Getting their attention, that’s what it is all about, isn’t it!

I’m not sure I agree with the idea of tweetergetter. the purpose of twitter (to me, at least) is to follow people you think are interesting because the information they tweet is good or interesting (or funny or useful etc). Using a system like this means you’re being followed by a system, not a user.
How many of these auto-follows have been to your site (or ever will) ? if people are following you just to get more followers themselves then what is a follower worth? for me, when someone follows me I check out their profile page and site, if they’re worthy and not full of direct marketing, “I’m a marketing guru”, or nothing but “new blog post..” tweets then I follow them back. I’ve met some really great people by doing this, I’m not sure that having a legion of MLM type followers will bring any value to my public timeline, it may even reduce the validity of my own messages or have them lost in the crowd.
I’d really rather not have a squillion followers all tweeting about “make money with this” or “promote this and never work again” cr*p. which is what I suspect would happen with people that follow me because they can get another follower (or 6) themselves.
Why do people want 19k followers if they’re not famous or have something really worth following (like updates to a popular site or software). What good can it do them? maybe they think having that many followers is “an easy way to riches” like compiling a list of 20k opt in subscribers who get hammered with the latest “have you tried this” emails that are sent because of the return it brings and not because the thing they’re promoting is useful.
I know people can be unfollowed or they can unfollow you but to me, it’s kind of like buying a toolbox of a million screwdrivers when you only actually need a few. Why lunk around a really heavy toolbox if it takes an hour to choose the right tool when you could fit all you need in your pocket and get the one you know will fit?
I agree that it’s a very interesting concept and I’m sure there will be people that rave about it but they’re probably the same people that rave about products they’ve never used or join a system and immediately make a post about how much money you can earn with it (before they’ve even been in it a week or earned even a penny).
Just seeing a timeline of someone claiming to show you a way to get 19k followers when they themselves have only 20 following them and have 200 people they’re following will tell me enough about that person to make me reconsider clicking that “follow” button.
I’d rather have 100 followers who are interested in my site, software or tweets than 1000 who probably have never even seen me or know what I’m about. If any one of my 100 followers asks a question or needs help, they’re already pre-qualified to get my help and I try to give it if I can but if I had a thousand followers who barely know me, what motivation have I got to even give a hoot what they need?
oh dear, here I go again rambling away for ages! sorry to clog up your comments, in fact, I’m almost tempted to cut this comment and paste it as a post on my own site but, you did ask what I thought!
Andy Baileys last blog post..Updated wp-twitip-id to final version.
I couldn’t agree more Andy. 1,000′s of computer generated followers is a complete waste of time and energy.
Pure and simple this is a pyramid scheme
As with other things many marketers will state that the end justifies the means.
My personal opinion is that TRUST is one of my most valuable commodities that is very hard to replace/repair.
Ignore the fact that the site launched with no privacy information at all, and anyone recommending this service is suggesting to their followers to enter their Twitter username and password, which they may or may not consider a valuable asset – that is risk
The primary problem is that this will never work for 90% of the people who sign up, it won’t deliver on the promise. It is primative compared to various list building sites even 3-4 years ago.
The secondary problem is that it will be eventually rejected by social media, and the negative wave will rub off on those that recommended it to their followers.
Thanks Guys!
Great feedback so far, some ideas come here that didn’t cross my mind and I appreciate the feedback.
Got to love the ability to get instant feedback and even point out My Mistakes!
Thanks!
I agree with the two Andy’s and didn’t take any action on this Tweeter Getter thing when I received an email on it right before I read this post on it.

I really don’t see the relevancy of Twitter after you follow a couple of people anyway. It seems to me like a waste of time o have to have all these little snippets running around my page. It makes sense to maybe follow a few people who really have something to say but I don’t plan on following anyone just to follow. Apparently this is a good marketing tool but I wonder how many people are actually swayed by a little blurb.

Andy, I think you would be shocked if you learned just how many! And in time I think you will be… all in due time.
Having read the comments I can only agree that this is a simple pyramid scheme, and any site that requires the use of your username AND password for another site/service should be looked at very carefully.
Prime example is meetyourmessenger, where thousands of users signed in with hotmail/windows live username and password to find out who had blocked them, the outcome being that the scammers behind this had been granted full access to the users account and harnessed all of their contacts details and the spam and malware was quickly spread. It still continues, with Asia now being targeted and the vicious circle will continue.
Building trust and integrity with readers is more important and it works which generates more organic and natural traffic than generating a huge list of followers who have no interest whatsoever.

Internet tends to platy funny games with us – action taken too fast sometimes is not the most accurate one!
thanks for all the feedback.
I think it’s a great concept… I don’t understand why there’s so much controversy around it?
I give him credit…
although If i were him I would follow more people on twitter…
I find that when your only following like 10 people you really don’t want to connect with people…
makes sense right?
just my thought on it!

Twitter is become huge. I even heard them mention on CNN today. Crazy how much free advertising they got from that.
Hi All,
Yes it looks like a pyramid system but hey if you need more followers for traffic reasons why not.
If you are using twitter for just chit chat with friends don’t use it.

I’ve made two blogs about TweeterGetter, and I’ve corrected a lot of misconceptions about this application. The most recent article on my blog explains what I believe the future of TweeterGetter to be. The first explains why the sky isn’t actually falling because TweeterGett may not actually be all that evil after all.
Is TweeterGetter the Devil?
http://jacemansjourney.com/pro.....devil.html
That article, and my other has caused several people on Twitter to message me and tell me that they originally hated TweeterGetter, but they may have actually jumped on the cynical bandwagon without just cause. Let me know what you think.
I must admit, it is refreshing to see a blogger keeping an open mind first and his flogging stick in his back pocket.

I understand the concern because there ARE so many spammy ‘list harvesting’ or friend building tools out there that suck. But if Tweeter Getter is promoted properly it does NOT have to fall into the ‘evil’ category.
I ‘get’ the importance of relationship building. I teach it all the time. But the nature of Twitter allows people to follow you (and you don’t mind) for any reason they want… whether they just felt like it, which is often the case, or they had a ‘real good’ reason is beside the point. It’s what YOU and THEY do after they follow you that matters on Twitter.
I assure you, people are following you and me all the time who could care less about you. They just want more people to follow them. Who cares… you can’t stop that. It’s the nature of Twitter.
All that you can control is the value you give, the discussions you engage in, the help you offer others AFTER they are on your list following you.
So who cares HOW or WHY someone gets on your list–you can’t control that anyway already… that is Twitter–and certainly you don’t have to use Tweeter Getter to build your list but who cares if others want to build their list that way and then connect and engage each other in discussions afterward (which is exactly what most people are doing now anyway).
Tweeter Getter is a great tool for marketers and business people–as long as they promote it respectfully and NOT spammy–with value added, as with all things. I’ve written more about this discussion and exactly how I’m using and promoting TweeterGetter mindful of all this–it’s build my list already by a 1000 followers and by the way, I’ve engaged in some great dialogue with them… they are as good as any other followers I’ve had as far as interaction and so forth.
Here’s more on the controversy, and where and how to promote and use Tweeter Getter correctly to build a following fast.

I stopped by this post from my google reader account just to read the comments. I used Tweeter Getter yesterday and have had quite a few new follows since – but I wonder how many of those will unfollow after a while. It’s an interesting concept and may well work in the IM niche – not sure how well it will work for others though.
Clare Swindlehursts last blog post..Writing Articles as an Affordable Internet Marketing Method
It is an “interesting” concept. I’m still left with mixed feelings about it personally.
I think it is due to the fact that I use Tweeter heavily for personal relationships building and networking and see the “spam” factor of the tool but at same time I can’t appreciate the value of large following.
So, I’m giving the stage to my readers and it is obvious people come from every angle.
I agree with Andy. I don’t like these schemes. I do the same thing when someone follows me. Check their page – sometimes check their website. I only follow people I feel would be of interest to me. Too many people worrying about getting as many followers as they can.
I am usually very cautious about a lot of these list building schemes which quickly take on a viral life. Don’t misunderstand me. I am a full supporter of IM and an MLM business structures, but what I am uncomfortable with is a lot of these list building gimmicks that get hordes of internet marketers all hot and sweaty, emails flying left, right and center in the hopes of being the first and acquiring the biggest following
Yes the ‘early bird will catch the worm’ so to speak but many don’t look before they leap. And get caught up in the frenzy. As such I personally have stayed away from all these types of list building popping up daily. Especially as a coach, I strive to recommend only what has some sound foundation, logic and viability. Of course it is tough to be right every single time
Bear in mind, many on the internet today are newcomers and lack the basics, so they figure if it ‘glitters like gold’ then it must be gold and that mentality creates ‘goldrush’ after ‘goldrush as marketers scramble in the hopes of getting a piece of the pie
Tweeter Getter caught my attention not so much because of the exponential growth that is possible and of course a hefty amount of unnecessary followers but it gives marketers a scope of what’s possible by really getting down to building
If they can internalize and take this concept into their own businesses and apply solid marketing tactics and tools – that’s when the real magic happens! So, I did recommend TweeterGetter to a few folks to wake them up mainly to the possibilities rather than to create big followings
But like so many of these ‘gold rushes’ – the noise I anticipate will soon die as we move on to the next ‘rush’
Thanks Alex for bringing this up and allowing us our say. You are much appreciated

I just signed up on the twitter band wagon 5 days ago…and the first day I was on someone tweet me with tweetgetter. Being a noob to twitter I figure okay, give it a shot. Because frankly in my opinion Twitter is a “Motley Crue”/flotsam and jetsam of miscellaneous info that just blows right by me. In the few days I have been on twitter I know have 245 followers and following 255. I managed to track down a couple of people I was interested in following some so called IM guru’s but their tweets are as useless as random followers. They are either promoting some crap JV partners stuff that they have probably never used themselves first e.g. recently Frank Kern’s Mass Control 2.0 launch recently or some other junk. Since I have been on twitter I have made one decent contact. I have 57 updates and tried many times to create some dialogue with people I am following or people who are following me. I truly don’t understand the value of twitter as anything more than a “ticker tape” of junk info. You can’t record any of it or sort it out. As far as I can see the only people that will benefit for twitter are well known people and maybe lesser know people with huge following regardless of why they are following you. So in my opinion tweetergetter may help me find people I wouldn’t have found any other way…on twitter. Now I do like it when I find a good blog or website of someone who has a twitter following me app or plugin…but still unless I am watching twitter 24/7 I would like missing anything worth reading or following.
Does anyone know of a app that can be used on twitter to record specific peoples tweets through the day, so at the end of the day I could review them?
Tracy
The point about social media is that they are, er, social.
Automated crapola viral shenanigans are not building a relationship with you so how would they work?
As Andy said this is a pyramid scheme and all you have to do to size up whether something makes sense is ask, “How does this add value to other people?”
All The Best

No one is mentioning the most important factor when considering whether Tweeter Getter is good or evil… the factor is: “Will you be able to discontinue it if you don’t like it?” So far, the answer is “NO!”. I’m angry at the person who recommended it. It’s just silly. The only followers I’m getting from it are either selling junky old hot air or talking dirty. I would be embarrassed for anyone to look at my “followers”.
How do I TURN IT OFF???
Lill,
My personal apologies if you joined from my recommendation. Sometimes we get caught up in idea before evaluating all implications and as result we get backlash. Unfortunately I don’t know how to turn it off. Don’t worry about who follows you – if you feel that a conversation with that person doesn’t add value to you – don’t follow back! You are not obligated to follow back everyone who follows you.
Honestly, I think after reading everybody’s comments which are valid, we need to keep an open mind on the tweetergetter agenda, the goal from my understanding is to get a significant number of followers, that’s it. I got nothing more than that, and honestly I think it is doing a great job. To say its not good practice then we need to extend that attitude to Corporate America as well.
I get countless number of e-mails of stuff I don’t need. Nonetheless, it shows like clock work every morning, it is estimated that Corporate America spent a staggering $400,000,000 dollars on e-mail marketing alone. Here we have a genius writing a script to attract more buzz to your profile regardless if they stay or not, just to get people to even hear what you have to say is sometimes a daunting task.
I mean if you want to follow somebody because they make you laugh then watch TV, or goto the movies, or even you tube for that matter. To me that is a silly reason to follow someone, conversely if we had Donald Trump giving business advice then that would be something I want to follow. Even if people leave because they don’t want to follow you that is fine, because the idea to me is to get people engaged into what you have to offer, whether they like it or not.
In conclusion, we should not slam the creator of Tweeter Getter because he has identified another avenue to engage website visitors. If your a business owner you should be praising him, if your just a user then you should be thanking him because he may have given you exposure to people that you may have never met on twitter, and because of that script it can stimulate opportunity. That is my word on this subject!
Old posts are interesting to read since internet time is kind of like dog years which makes this post about 5 years old!
I came looking here to find out a good reason, or any reason really, why one should have 1,000′s of Twitter followers unless you really are an expert in a field and your tweets are the value as opposed to the conversation that most of us have on Twitter.
If anyone has a idea, I’d love to hear it -
John X´s last blog ..Web Based Product or Service Marketing with Small Dollars and Big Sense
Have around 20,000 followers. Over half have not ‘tweeted’ in over 6 months. I assume the real world called and they went. over ½ of blogs (and web sites over all) appear to last less than 6 months to a year before they are abandoned. Same appears to be true with twitter accounts. It is said there are over 200,000 blogs on the net, yet 3/4ths of them have not had a post on them in over 6 months. So do they count? If 3/4ths of my followers have not logged in for 30 days, do I really have 20,000 followers? So even if you get a million followers in a month, within 6 months most have stopped logging in so don’t read your messages anyway.
So while Twitter says they have over 6 million users, what they mean is they have over 6 million accounts. I doubt there is much more than a million ‘users’. Paying to get users or joining programs seems like a temporary way to get a message out at best. In a short time, it is only accounts that are ‘following’ you, not people. When I check the stats of followers, 3/4ths of them have not even logged into their accounts in over 3 months. It is mostly smoke and mirrors, it would appear.
Better to have a small number of followers and if what you say is interesting enough, they may bother to log in to read it. If not, then it is just empty accounts following you as Twitter apparently never deletes abandoned accounts. Just ones that someone takes the time to delete themselves. Even then the count shows up under your ‘followers’ for 30 more days.
