We all know how important social media is to the traffic on our blogs. Since WordPress is the world’s most widely used blogging platform, it is very important to gain as much exposure to your blog as is possible. You can do that by connecting your WordPress blog to your social media outlets. Thankfully, WordPress has made it very easy to connect your blog to social media outlets of many kinds. Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Yahoo!, and Tumblr can all be connected to your blog in just a few simple steps. Here are the directions on how to connect your blog with these social media sites:

Twitter

Twitter is a great medium for posting new updates of your blog. The post title and a link can automatically be tweeted for you once you connect Twitter to your WordPress blog. That is so much easier than having to go sign into Twitter, create a shorted URL and then create your own tweet. Another additional element that WordPress offers is adding a Twitter feed to your blog. This is a great way to tie together the social media outlet with your blog in an easy way that all your readers can immediately see and use. Thankfully, this additional advantage will only take a few steps to complete.

To connect your WordPress blog to your Twitter account and allow it to update with each new blog post, start out by going to your blog’s dashboard. Once you are there, find the tab marked settings. Click on that and then locate the sub tab marked sharing. Click ‘Connect to Twitter’. A box will appear asking you to authorize the connection. Follow the directions to complete the connection and authorize your Twitter account. As simple as that, your WordPress blog is now connected to your Twitter account. Now you can add a Twitter feed to your WordPress blog also.

To add a Twitter feed to your WordPress blog, return to the dashboard. Once you are there, find the tab marked appearance. Now locate the sub tab marked widgets. A listing of your current widgets should appear in boxes on the dashboard. Locate the grey colored bar named Twitter under the section named available widgets. Click and drag the Twitter bar over to the sidebar area. I recommend placing the Twitter feed near the top of your blog so that it is clearly visible to your readers. However, you can place it wherever you desire. Once the widget is placed, you can personalize it. Giving it an accurate name and description will help your readers to know what it is. You can also limit the number of tweets shown on your blog. I have found that between five and ten tweets is about the right number to use. Save your changes and check out your WordPress blog’s new Twitter feed!

Facebook

Since Facebook is the most widely used social media site in the world, it only makes sense that you should take advantage of it with your WordPress blog. Once you connect your WordPress blog to your Facebook account, your blog posts will automatically be sent as a status update to your Facebook profile. Here is how you connect your Facebook account to your WordPress blog:

Start out on your blog’s dashboard. From here, locate the tab marked setting. Click on that and then the sub tab marked sharing. Click ‘Connect to Facebook’. A pop up will appear asking you to authorize the connection. Follow the directions to complete the authorization. Once that is complete, another pop up will also appear. Choose your options and complete the connection. Now your WordPress blog is connected to your Facebook profile!

However, if you would like have your posts go to a Facebook page, instead of your Facebook profile, you have to do a few steps. Go to the dashboard once again. Now click on the tab marked settings and then the sub tab marked sharing. Now click on the ‘Set Options’ link. You have to have administrative rights to the page you are attempting to post on before this will work. Once you set the option up to post on the page, save your work. Keep in mind that a page-only Facebook profile cannot connect to a WordPress blog.

Linkedin

Linkedin is the social media site for professional connections. If you want your WordPress blog to reflect on your business connections, then you should really connect it to Linkedin. It is very easy to accomplish. Here is how you do it:

Start out on the dashboard. Then click on the tab marked settings and then the sub tab marked sharing. Choose ‘Connect to Linkedin’. A message will pop up asking you to authorize the connection. Follow the directions to complete the authorization. You will have to log in to your Linkedin account to complete the connection successfully. That is all there is to it! Now your WordPress blog is connected to your Linkedin account.

Yahoo!

Yahoo! has been around for a long time. Started in 1995, the company has been on top of internet search, email and social media. To connect your WordPress blog to your Yahoo! account, just follow these few steps:

Start out on your dashboard. Then find the tab marked settings and click on it. Find the sub tab marked sharing and click. Then locate the button named ‘Connect to Yahoo!’. A pop up will appear asking you to confirm the connection. You will then be taken to sign into your Yahoo! account. Once you sign in, you can authorize the connection. There you go! Your WordPress blog is now connected to your Yahoo! account.

Tumblr

Tumblr is a huge social media influence for many people, especially those of a younger age. With lots of room for reposting, commenting, and photos, Tumblr is a great blogging slash social media application with its own unique flavor. To connect your WordPress blog to your Tumblr account, just follow these easy steps:

Start out on your blog’s dashboard. Now, click on the tab marked settings. Click on the sub tab named sharing. Find the button named ‘Connect to Tumblr’ and click on that. A pop up box will appear asking you to confirm the connection. Once you confirm it, you will be taken to your Tumblr account which will again ask you to confirm the connection. If you have more than one Tumblr blog you can choose which one you want your WordPress blog updates to be posted to. You can always change this later by clicking on the ‘Set Options’ button under the sharing sub tab. Save your settings and you should be done! Your WordPress blog is now connected to your Tumblr blog.

Now, wasn’t that easy to do? WordPress makes connecting your blog to your social media accounts quick and easy. However, due to security and privacy concerns, you can only connect one WordPress blog at a time. That means that if you have more than one WordPress blog, you will have to connect each one individually. In a positive light, that also means you can personalize the experience for each site. Connecting your WordPress blog to the major social media outlets is a great way to bring in more traffic to your blog and also notify your readers of new updates. If you have not yet connected your blog to social media, now is the time to get started. It is very easy to do and will only take a few minutes, but it is well worth your time and effort. Good luck and happy blogging!
