The much awaited 2012 is here.

Have you thought about the great opportunities available to you? One of the best things you can do is to effectively position your web pages on Google. When people search for a specific information, does your blog post appear in the search engine result pages (SERPs)?

According to Brian Clark of Copyblogger media, links are the currency of the web. Search engines uses links to determine how relevant and informative your web pages are.

Focus on Your Web pages, Link Homepage

Before I share the 5 essential steps to build quality backlinks, I want to instill in you the importance of web page linking. Don’t link to your homepage all the time. In fact, channel your entire linking activity on respective blog posts. Why?

It’s because a web page contains the primary domain name on the URL. What this means is that you’re actually killing two birds with a stone. But when you link to your homepage, you ultimately lose the link juice to your money-making pages.

1. Work On Your Brand

Do you know it’s much better for potential customers to memorize your domain name than your own name?
It’s very important to your overall success. For link building to work for you in 2012, you’ve to work on your brand. Unless you brand is your own personal name, don’t spend too much time optimizing for your name.

Let your domain name be the pivot of your every step. Share your brand on social networking sites. Use it as a signature on forums and let everyone in your spheres of contact get acquainted with your identity. Once you achieve this, people would willing link back to your cornerstone contents.

2. Create Cornerstone Contents

What exactly is your blog about?

Creating a cornerstone content for your blog is paramount. If you’re into sales copywriting, there should be a foundation for your subsequent blog posts. These types of posts are usually detailed, informative and easy to read. It’s not the usual 500 words.

Make it lengthy with pictorial and infographic representations.

This way, your prospects are well informed on what lies ahead. You can create multiple cornerstone contents. Only ensure they’re closely woven for easy assimilation and implementation.

My best contents that got hundreds of link juice were cornerstone. You should give it a shot today!

3. Don’t Neglect Keyword Placements

I’m not telling you to stuff keywords like some people do. In essence, you should place these terms in the right places so that your potential visitor would value your content.

There is nothing as frustrating as having a visitor leaves your blog just because you didn’t use the words they searched for.

Keywords reveal the real intent in the hearts of your audience. Without these key terms, how would you know when a prospect is desperate, mild or intuitive? Placing relevant keywords on the headline enhances the worth of that particular web content.

When someone is ready to link back to you, they usually use the keywords found in the title. This gives you an extra edge, because anchor links matter. See the next line…

4. Utilize Key Terms As Anchor Links

You should do things a little different this year. If your linking strategy hasn’t worked for you in 2011, you can’t continue implementing it. When you’re linking back from another site, ensure the links are keyword-based that targets a unique web page on your blog.

Anchor links, what are they? They are texts that become your link. Search engines follow these links to scour the sister-web page. If you’re writing articles for syndication across other blogs, don’t use the typical quirky “click here” approach, instead, place your primary key phrase and link to it.

Whatever your niche may be, there are specific key phrases available to you. I’ve used this strategy repeatedly to rank learn French software; speak Spanish at home, French lessons online etc, and it even got me to learn things like “stratège en marketing digital” which is really helpful in my line of work.

5. Stay Away From Content Farms

Don’t build your links from content farms!

Are you surprised? It’s alright if you’re. Content farms are sites and blogs that have no specific market. They accept every form of article and build whatever links. Behind the scene, these types of site use link exchanges and black-hat techniques to trick search engines.

But guess what? They can’t trick search engines for long. If you get a link from these sand-boxed sites, you’ll be seen as a “web destroyer.”

The beauty of this story is that Google wants to make the web a better place; they are looking for web pages that can help bring it to pass.

Look for blogs, sites and web portals that are targeted, relevant and highly focused on a group of web users and build your link from there. You’re making the web a better place to in and Google will reward you handsomely.

Linking Takeaway

I’ve seen new blogs outrank aged blogs on Google top 10. Do you know the reason for this? A single link from an authority blog is better than a hundred links from an infant blog. It becomes valuable when such links are relevant, keyword-anchored and natural.

The above steps are proven to work for you in 2012. But you must take action if success is your choice. Will you?
