Are Bloggers Permitted To Have Days Off?
TheSpotter on October 8th, 2007
Tweet ThisThis is one question that is perhaps while incorrectly phrased but still something that is been lingering in my mind …
Can you take a weekend off without loosing your audience?
I generally try to program at least one post to go live on weekend to retain the consistence of posting but like this extended weekend I failed to follow through.
Blogging is as much commitment to post what is expected from you, as it is fun. You are expected to produce information and produce it at predictable intervals but what if you just taking time off?
How does it affect your readership?
I would love to hear your opinion!
And while I didn’t write anything myself this weekend I took the time in the evening to read some other excellent posts from the blogs I subscribe (I had a backlog of several hundred posts in my RSS Reader) and want to share with your some articles I found to be more then simply interesting:
- Moving The Free Line - by Yaro Starak goes into details of Internet Marketing sales funnel. If you think it doesn’t apply to you - think again! … but first I recommend you read the article.
- The Secret to Massive Digg/StumbleUpon Traffic Without Spamming - by ME “Liz” Strauss goes into one of the best tutorials on generatng traffic from social networks and doing it consistently.
- 100 Blog Topics I Hope YOU Write - by Chris Brogan gives you a collection of 100 topics you can swipe and write about. Running low on ideas? Here is your resource …
- Google Pagerank Update: Who Cares? - by Jack Humphrey nails the current issue with Google PR and I personally liked it because it confirms my own thoughts I shared in post last week.
- Get 1000s of Visitors in a Month Using Videos by Sean provides you with a step-by-step guidance to using videos for generating traffic.
And here are a few plugins for your WordPress blog that are wel worth installing:
- Notify Unconfirmed Subscribers is a must have for anyone offering email subscription via FeedBurner. It provides you with a simple interface to send a custom email to people who attempted to subscribe and didn’t confirm.
- Categories Autolink does one thing and does it well - creates links to your categories from within content when matching category name is found.
Enjoy the reading and please provide me with feedback on your experience with taking time off!

I don’t take a lot of weekends off. My office is in my home and I like to be here when my family is off for the weekends. So I am very close to my office and can come in here to check on things as often as I like.
I do love to go fishing and I love my garden so I use the week days to do enjoy these hobbies, while everyone else is working.
I use Wordpress and make posts in advance that will pop up on my blogs while I am out enjoying myself on a stream or in my backyard garden.
I don’t put up posts every single day because I don’t feel that is necessary to keep my readers, but I don’t like to go without posting for more than 2 days at a time.

Thanks James,
Yeah .. I agree and work much in similar fashion and even this weekend while I wasn’t posting I was actually working on another project - providing an upgrade tutorial for my W2.0W customers and testing all the files …
Thanks for comment!

I personally prepare a blog post for Sunday during the week and than post it manually on Sunday. Mostly because I want to have a fresh blog post each Monday morning when folks get to their RSS reader on Monday morning.
I know I could automate the task, in fact I already have a Wordpress plugin to automate, so perhaps I’ll do that in the future.

Mick,
The automation is already build into your WordPress - no plugins required
Just change the Post date to whenever you want it to appear and click publish, your post will automatically appear on that date/time. That is how I do most of my posts.

Hi Alex,
after a long time I would like to notify you that I recently updated the Categories Autolink plugin, which is now at the version 2.0 and I also created a new plugin, which is called Tags Autolink. It does the same work as Categories Autolink, but with tags.

Thanks Alberto,
I personally don’t use the plugins but appreciate the heads-up.
