You're completely right... especially about the subscriber thing. Feeds, subscribers, etc -- it's all a very small part of the larger game. I've always targeted the search engines because no matter what, SE traffic is win-win. For example, if I have SE traffic and I disapear for a month, I'll probably still come back with a high subscriber count, and my traffic doesn't take a big hit. No matter what the strategy, SEO compliments it.

May i suggest. Active in forum also can gain your visitor to the website. Especially when we already post many article in that forum. Many people already know who you are and you can get free back link by putting link in the signature.

But for me, i prefer bookmarking then forum. Because i can express my self by joining more social networking or social bookmarking.

I guess it's no surprise that I do DoFollow blog commenting, but I really should take up a few other link building strategies from your list.

I had a lot of traffic coming to my blog from other blogs linking to post but my blog crashed and all those links were nothing but dead links. I am slowly rebuilding my back links but eventually i plan to have enough that people will be talking about my blog the way that they do Garry Conn.... Some day......

i agree. it can be rather easy to forget to continue to accumulate backlinks, when it's sometimes more interesting to do on page optimization, or maybe set up another blog. :) which is why i'm glad plugins like keyword luv and comment luv exist. they take do follow blogs and make them into even more efficient backlink generators, while being able to engage in conversation in the process. :)

I don't think its gonna sustain for long. I have been reading many web masters are started facing penalties by both dropping PRs and rankings by using 3 way link exchange, esp who use tnx kind of services.

Deanna,

It is one single most important action for your blog - build incoming links. While creating great content will guarantee that you get some link love and grow your authority status - building links speeds up the process.

So far I haven't seen masses of traffic from them, but I reckon it'll help due to an accumulation of small gains. The backlinks also help with organic search-engine traffic.

Excellent article and I have to admit this is one area that I do fall short on. I do some article submission because I write articles for my blog so it's easy to submit them, when I remember, to an article directory, but beyond that, I don't really do too much of anything. I have gotten better about tagging, but just recently.

It's one of those items on my ever growing 'to do' list. So much of my time is spent just working on the posts since I usually do between 2 and 6 a day. Not posting regularly definitely shows in my traffic.

Maybe if I concentrate on links a little more I can back off on so much posting and give myself a break.... nice thought!
