Want Traffic - Get Trendy
Monika Mundell on August 5th, 2008
Tweet ThisBloggers all want the one thing. Traffic! It makes sense. When you first started out blogging you were probably hoping for thousands of visitors every day, dozens of comments and maybe even a bit of income, right? Well, in the meantime you might have found out that traffic is indeed a myth and your blog resembles a starving human stuck in the middle of the desert.
If that is you, then let it be known there is help at hand. You too can have a blog that pulls in thousands of visitors every day! Yes, every day.
In fact, I’m actually surprised not more bloggers use this technique to boost their traffic. If you wonder what the heck I’m talking about, here is the thing. You need to…
Get Trendy
Getting trendy is as easy as becoming a Google Trends blogger. The idea of blogging on Google Trends is to catch the hot topic of the moment and blog about it before the rest of the world does.
A big plus of doing this is that you will most likely get indexed very fast. This means, if you act fast enough, your blog post will rank at the top of Google before the mass media gets wind of the story and bang… you suddenly have yourselves a massive surge of blog traffic.
Blogging on Google Trends done right can send you consistent traffic, which you can take and monetize.
Just to give you an idea of what is possible. I hit Google trends more by sheer luck late last year. Within the space of 3 days or so I had over 5,000 visitors to that blog. I wrote about 10 posts at the time on a particular topic and to this day I still receive an average of 50 visitors every single day without promotion of any kind. I also haven’t written a single post on that blog since December 2007.
Trend Steps
Here is what you do:
- Register a domain with the keyword “news” in it. Even better, buy a pre-owned domain instead for cheap.
- Setup your blog on a self hosted domain.
- Customize the blog to resemble a news site
- Start blogging on Google Trends topics
Tip # 1: Google trends updates their listings every hour. The sooner you are blogging about them, the faster you will be ranked.
Tip # 2: Write as many posts as you can every day. You don’t need many to get the traffic, but you do need to hit on the right trend to do.
Tip # 3: Just keep blogging on Google Trends, even if first you don’t seem to see any results. You’ll soon get a feel for how it works.
Tip # 4: Internet marketing gurus have used Google Trends for ages to do their research.
Google Trends could provide you with the income stream and traffic you were always hoping for. One word of warning though. You need to work the blog as you would any business. If you treat it like a hobby it won’t do much because the hardest part of working a trend blog is to monetize it.
Finding the right revenue stream is key to earning money with Google trends. You will need to play around with different advertising models until you hit gold. Despite this, it could all be worth your time.
Good luck!

I have noticed this google trends thing before. It is weird to because I will get put on the trends for something that doesn’t even relate to my post or blog but that relates to my first name “Jesse”. I’m not so sure about it…

Great advice, I always use Google Trends. I would also recommend checking out eBay Pulse.

Great idea. I might just have to try it. I knew Google Trends was useful. I just never thought of using it as a basis for a site.

Cool post - am I missing something regarding how this would help your current blog get visitors?
Is it that you would link your news blog to your other blogs and pass some traffic on?
It’s my blogs that I am passionate about that I would like to get traffic, not so much blogs that you manufacturer purely for getting traffic - am I making sense?

@ Guitar Tab Books: You are making perfect sense. Like you, my blog (my main blog) has nothing to do with this neat trick. In fact, I wouldn’t even touch it. But, for bloggers who want to have a blog with traffic at the forefront of their mind this method can help them.
It is just another way to make money online or in the least get traffic first and then monetize the site. Naturally your blog would have to suit this type of posts.
Hope this makes sense.

I’d never even heard of google trends before. This seems like quite a nice idea, assuming I want to write a news blog. I don’t really see how this is going to help drive traffic to my existing blog in which I’m writing about a subject which actually interests me.

Google Trends will show you terms that a lot of people are currently look for when they do a search on Google.
It stands to reason that you should be able to generate a lot of traffic by using those terms on your website if you find terms that you can connect to your main topic or theme.

Yes, idea is good and realization of first stage, I mean, buying of domain and setting blog engine there, does not very hard.. but what about “write as many posts as you can”?
How many posts I need write ot see the real profit? Trend keywords will change every hour so.. it seems I will not hurry to cover all topics.

I recently discovered Google Trends and split a standard website I have that promoted clickbank products into two - the website and a blog. I now use the blog to blog Google Trends (see it at worldwide-infomedia-services.com/news/
Anyway I’ve been at it for about a week now but haven’t really seen any increase in visitor numbers and over the past seven days have earned the great sum of six cents of Adsense revenue - I’ll soon be retiring!
Seriously though I would like to ask one question about Blogging Google Trends. What would readers do first: blog trends four or five times every day for about two weeks until Google gets to know you blog very regular (go this road and by the very nature that you’re posting regular the quality will really drop, but then it is numbers your after,) OR alternatively concentrate on one or two (at most) quality posts every day? I’m thinking the first is the better option.
I think it is also important to spot the trend before it goes Volcanic
