Do You Comment Enough To Be Authority?

Google has changed the game (again) and I have spoke about it before but how does it impact you? What exactly do you do to benefit from those changes?

Do You Know That By Simply Commenting You Can Greatly Increase Your Authority Status?

I have wrote before in my post CommentLuv Plus DoFollow Equal Unlimited Link Love about using CommentLuv enabled blogs to boost your blog rank and it still stands true – but with one correction!

All the changes are explained by Matt Cutts in his post on Page Rank Sculpting and when it comes down to it designed to do one thing – prevent gaming of the algorithm. And at same time it gives you a way to boost your own page rank by engaging into conversation!

“DoFollow” – “NoFollow” – while it still matters, it appears that Google has decided to allow you benefit from commenting on relevant to your Niche blogs and get some link juice! Assuming you are commenting on blogs with CommentLuv enabled!

Granted – you get less PR juice on blogs with “nofollow” but if you comment on a more relevant blog I think it will be actually more beneficial to you in the long run.

Here Are Your Action Steps:

  1. Locate as many blogs relevant to you Niche as possible with CommentLuv enabled
  2. Make it a point that EACH time you publish a new post to comment on at least 10 blogs to get at least 10 links to each one of your blog posts

Can you handle those 2 steps?

Just rememebr - Google ranks pages, not sites!

More incoming links you get to your internal posts – the higher will be your overall blog Authority Status! No gaming, no “gray” stuff – just do what Google would like you to do and enjoy the results.

And yes, if you must ask – it works! Below is an image of me getting #8 spot in Google for very competitive keyword with nothing more than commenting.

    Hi Alex,
I love your posts as they are so practical and not just fluff! I also love routine so ‘comment on 10 commentluv blogs after each of my posts’ is something I can plan and track – great.
I also just went back and read the previous commentluv post you mentioned. I can’t believe you need to unclick one thing on your Feedburner account or it’s all a waste of time. I’ve now unclicked and am off to search for commentluv blogs.
    Cheers, Chloe

      Hi Alex,
Sorry to ask a stupid question. As I mentioned I unclicked the “item link clicks” in Feedburner to avoid the Commentluv link going to the feed, which works fine here on your blog. But I’ve now just left 2 comments on other Commentluv blogs and they’re still linking to the RSS feed – what have I done wrong? Please help!
      Cheers, Chloe

I am loving the comments on this topic about comments. Alex thanks again for staying so informed of the huge variety of plugins and looking our for our best interests. I would not want someone stealing my comments without my approval if they were going to be selling them. I do not write for free for just anyone. I do for almost everyone, but still I at least know who they are.

    Hi Alex,
I’ve been using this method for some time now. Originally I did quitre a bit but then fell off. You suggested that it should be done on a consistent basis after every new post – I’ve seen a big diffrence since I started doing it regularly.
One question though – in the Website field of the comment would it be beneficial to put the url of the post instead of the blog?

  4. While I don’t know about the affect on Google I can confirm that commenting in DoFollow CommentLuv blogs can greatly increase traffic. I have seen increases anywhere from 54.87% to over 100% when I’ve made the time to go out commenting.

There are a couple of posts your readers may find most useful. One explains the commenting strategy I use and the other has DoFollow lists and tools. Both have been staying in my Recently Popular section.

I haven’t commented here before so I wanted to mention that I use Internet Strategist as my name wherever I go unless the blog has objections or a policy against it. That “name” is what I am known by and was not originally chosen to be a keyword phrase.

While I prefer to use it or GrowMap I am open to other suggestions.

      Fiona,

Since Andy Bailey moved it to new server – I’m looking for more efficient ways to find those. EWP Members toolbar provides you with a link to page where under “Blog Promotion” that has list of several blogs with CommntLuv and DoFollow. I will continue to build and edit that list to help my custoemrs.

    Hello Alex,

My personal view is that chasing backlinks from “dofollow” blogs is a waste of time, and that if you leave a genuine, relevant, useful comment, no matter what plugins a blog uses, you will gain much more than if you chase Page Rank or backlinks.

    I hope all’s well.

    • TheSpotter says:

      Thanks David,

I agree with you on value of comments and I do those myself, on several blogs relevant to my topic and for same reason but I still believe that doing a targeted comment campaign is extremely beneficial and I was actually able to confirm it several times. So, if getting on page 1 of Google is a waste of time – I’ll do it gladly!

      • David Airey says:

        No worries at all, Alex.

I think there’s more to it than simply leaving comments, and Google doesn’t award backlinks in isolation. For instance, given your Alexa ranking you have a high-traffic blog already, and I doubt the same effect can be gained by someone with an unranked domain.

The post you rank on page 1 for is also just a couple of weeks old, and as far as I’m aware, Google give a certain degree of preference to fresh content.

So say for discussion’s sake you have a low-traffic, unranked domain, do you think it’s more appropriate to spend your time writing stellar content?
.-= David Airey´s last blog ..Something old, something new… =-.

        • TheSpotter says:

David, absolutely! Your point is well taken but I still stand true as we are currently experimenting with a small group of people for very specific things and I can tell you even new blogs are ranking well.

Google does give preference to fresh content, I agree but even 2 weeks on first page can have huge benefits if achieved consistently! Any bit of traffic you can get for free counts :-)

I don’t argue with you on point of creating content and doing normal commenting just the point that there is room for both and if something priven to work – it should never be ignored.

          Cheers

        • David Airey says:

That’s fair enough. I’m of the ilk that any comment left with an ulterior motive isn’t as genuine as I’d prefer, and I suppose that’s ultimately what prompted me to comment.

About your mention of Matt Cutts…

It seems we got a different perspective of his page sculpting post (or maybe I’m just getting my wires crossed, as happens more than I’d like).

What Matt said has actually prompted me to uninstall the CommentLuv plugin, because even when comments are “nofollow”, it dilutes the Page Rank that flows through the “follow” links on the same page.

No juice is passed through the “nofollow”, just less to the “follow”, and increasingly less for every “nofollow” link you have.

This can be particularly detrimental for internal links when you have a post attracting lots of comments.

  13. Thats sounds to be much work, did it? I mean 10 comments per blog-post, but I´ve tried it and it works fine for me, it´s much better than link to your blog´s main page! So the work pays!

  15. Your two action steps are brilliant. I do make comments after posting, but I haven’t been attentive to finding 10 comment luv enabled blogs in my niche to comment on. So simple, but requires discipline to make that happen. A new goal! Thanks – your blog is packed with good stuff. One more post and then I have to go!

    Here Are Your Action Steps:

    1. Locate as many blogs relevant to you Niche as possible with CommentLuv enabled
    2. Make it a point that EACH time you publish a new post to comment on at least 10 blogs to get at least 10 links to each one of your blog posts
