For Those About To Spam, I Salute You!

I have to admit, I have a Love/Hate relationship with spammers on my blog:

  • I Hate the time and effort that goes to waste to deal with them
  • I Love the inspiration they provide me with to constantly evolve the methods of dealing with them and also Content I create on the topic

It seems that no matter how solid of a protection we put in place – it only works for a while and then we begin to see an influx of comments filled with bunch of BS that supposed to make me “feel good and approve their crap”.

Battling Foreign Langage Comment Spam

Here I go again! Talking about Fighting Comment SPAM on the blog and how to deal with never-ending stream of attempts to sneak one in! But this time I want to discuss something that I have seen increase lately, maybe just on my blog but still quite annoying:

Because of the plugins I have already implemented on my blog – automated comment spam is non-existent but I still get a few comments, manually submitted that need my attention, evaluation and finally determination if they should be approved.

WORD OF WARNING TO SPAMMERS: I can click “SPAM” button a lot faster than you can type your comment!

But I have to admit, when a comment comes from someone not native English Speaking and links back to a NON-English site – it is sometimes not very obvious if it is spam or valid comment by someone who doesn’t have a solid grasp of English.

Comment Spam Fighting Technique

Comment Spam when looked from slightly different perspective can be an indicator of your blog popularity! So I guess we all should rejoice when our SPAM queue filled with dozens of comments from spam-bots. Luckily that is easily killed by simply taking advantage of the options provided by Akismet. Comment Spam Filter Comes To Rescue Akismet

Fighting Comment Spam on a WordPress blog is a never ending battle. Since I provide DoFollow options and use 2 plugins that reward commenters even more: CommentLuv and KeywrodLuv – I get a LOT of comment spam. Ever since I have switched from Spam Karma 2 to Akismet I’ve been testing multiple plugins that will assist me with this work and minimize the load.

Well, looks like I have just found a wining combination!
