How To Track Your Keywords with HitTail

This guest post submitted by Mert Erkal from www.searchforblogging.com. Visit his site for even more information on blogging and SEO.

These days I have seen quite a lot of bloggers who are trying to dominate popular search phrases to pull traffic to their blogs. Frankly speaking, most bloggers will never dominate popular search phrases. Top five blogs dominated those keywords already. Thus, you should not expect your blog to rank on the first page of search engine results for those specific keywords.

Yet, the game is not over for the small and mid-sized bloggers. Thanks to a concept called the Long Tail, we can still drive good traffic from search engines without dominating the top keywords.

In this quick post I simply want to share couple great resources for any blogger interested to improve their blog Search Engine Position by a notch or two (and show me who isn’t) ….

  • The Blogger’s Guide to SEO - by Aaron & Giovanna Wall. While more advanced bloggers might not discovered too much new in this guide I personally like it as a reference material. Written by a well recognized blogger this guide provides all the major steps you need to cover with your blog in a very convenient format.
  • WordPress SEO Masterclass For Competitive Niches by Andy Beard in my opinion is a lot more advanced guide that takes one site and walks through improving its rank. Andy does a great job in this post covering multiple linking strategy that are very advanced and provides you with a great tools freely available to make your own calculations. This is one of the most in depth blog SE optimization articles I have see in a while and a great read.

That’s it for now …

Grade Your Blog SEO And Marketing Value

Every once in a while I run into a cool tool that attracts my attention and draws me into further investigation. Quite distracting but stats and performance analysis is one of  my minus and always have been  as long as I’ve been building websites. My justification always been simple - If I know what effort contributes more to success, I can spend more time on it and disregard tasks that give me less return.

A little while ago I have posted an article “Webmaster Tools Every Blogger Need To Know About” , where I listed some of the most useful tools in my opinion to perform tracking and get general overview. We are not talking detailed analytics here but an Great Overview of results. And Website Grader is another tool that should have made the list but I simply didn’t know about it until quite recently.

Blog Ranking, Is There Change Coming From Google?

There are many arguments on importance of page rank to your blog but the fact still remains - higher your page rank, more chances you have to monetize your blog. It is not something we need to agree or disagree on as it is simple statement of facts. Unfortunately Page rank is still considered one single most important factor that affects your earnings, especially for a blog.

Don’t believe me? Try signing up with ReveiwMe, TextLinkAds or PayPerPost programs … page rank of your blog is most surely taken into consideration. In fact this very blog is a victim of that. It has been discussed on several prominent blogs that Google has stopped updating Page Rank, at least the way we see it represented in our browser Google PR indicators. A few days ago I read an article on Yaro’s blog that they might be resuming updates but personally I highly doubt it, as my blog is coming into its 6th moth and still No Page Rank!

But I also think they have something else cooking for blog ranking and here is why …

White Hat SEO Video Lecture By Matt Cutts

It’s not a big secret that properly optimized for Search Engines blog and individual blog posts will lead to generating gobs of free traffic via achieving a better positioning in Search Engine Results. There are so many products and guides on the topic of SEO that the term itself has become overused and what is even more upsetting misrepresented.

Search Engine Optimization for Google is really not that hard but when people try to game the system and then share their results, so called “black hat” seo they create more confusion then needs to be. As search engines, including Google move more and more toward semantic search results - “white hat seo” will always take precedence and win. In this post I want to share 2 video from a Google’s own Matt Cutt’s on proper SEO optimization from WordPress camp in San Francisco earlier this year.
