The Lost Art of Image SEO

Search Engine OptimizationOne of the things people don’t really think about when doing SEO is the fact that there is a lot of growth potential when looking at image SEO. Google has an entire section dedicated to searching for images and this can bring traffic to your website or blog. But, because there is such a push for title tags, links and optimized content, people forget that they could be getting interested traffic just by having good, high quality images on the page.

The problem for many sites—bloggers in particular—is actually finding the image. There are the free methods in which you go to Wikipedia or Flickr (make sure the image is free to distribute) and get that image. Then there are the smarter ways where you use programs such as Jupiter Images and Photos.com. These pages provide stock photos for inexpensive. So, if you’re talking about SEO, you might find an image that shows an arrow projecting increased growth. You’re increasing your traffic with SEO, so the image works.

Conduct Keyword Research through Mobile

With the rising amounts in mobile Internet users, the increased amount of mobile searches is steadily rising. Since 2009, the amount of Google use from mobile Internet searches has gone off the charts.

Due to this ever higher rising number, the need for mobile advertising for businesses is finally reaching a necessary point. If a business has a website, there is a high chance that a visitor is on a mobile phone. Business may drop if those customers were not able to reach the business with their mobile phone.

Volunteer Virtually and Watch the Rankings Grow

As a blogger, you know how important it is to have links to your blog out on the web. Likely, you’re already doing many things to get more of those links, including having interesting content that will spread among the social media platforms and writing guest blog posts so you can link back to your blog.

However, there is one form of internet citizenship that you probably haven’t thought about yet: virtual volunteerism. The internet is full of non-profits who need content written and organizations that couldn’t write a blog post to save their lives. There are even online newspapers that can’t seem to fund themselves and need a lending hand. Volunteering in exchange for a byline link or an author’s page isn’t just self-serving altruism, it’s smart.

+1 My Google Rank?

You know the Like button? Well, Google one upped Facebook with the +1 button. What makes the +1 button unique but comparable to the Like button is the ability for users to like links and share it amongst friends. But the +1 button works on a slightly different level in that it can directly affect the way Google ranks a site in their browser.

When a user uses Google to search, they will be able to click the +1 button that appears next to each site if they like it. The only way a user can do this is by logging into a Google account; either Google+ or Google profile will do.

What happens when a site is +1’d? When a site is +1’d, it will show up in the search results of your friends (as long as they are logged into Google). Your name will appear below the link as a sort of endorsement to the site, signifying that the site is worth checking out. Your friends will be more likely to click on the link after seeing that you recommended the site and more than likely they too will +1 it.

No Google “Love” For Spotter Blog?

About 4 years ago my blog “Howto Spotter” went from visual page rank 5 to page rank 3. Google “Love” seem to have run out for me at that point. And while it actually didn’t impact my traffic or ability to rank for keywords – it did kill my ability to sell advertising space on this blog and since than I was primarily using affiliate ads on my blog.

While I did signup for “Text Link Ads” marketplace network, and it was one of the more popular and one that got hit by Google when they decided to punish link selling – I never actually participated in selling, kind of lost interest in it before I could sell anything.

Since then I have tried multiple things to address the ranking all to no avail as my page rank remained unchanged. While as mentioned above – my ability to rank and my traffic didn’t get impacted – growth did slow down, although it could be attributed to other factors as well. This post is a recount of my attempts to re-mediate the problem, perhaps it will help you if you are in same situation…
