Comment Spam Fighting Technique

Comment Spam when looked from slightly different perspective can be an indicator of your blog popularity! So I guess we all should rejoice when our SPAM queue filled with dozens of comments from spam-bots. Luckily that is easily killed by simply taking advantage of the options provided by Akismet. But what do you do with Manually Submitted Comment Spam?

In this post I want to share strategy I use for last 2.5 month and found to be very effective - just see the decline of SPAM in the image below:

KeywordLuv Plugin Is Gone

KeywordLuv is very useful plugin for your WordPress blog and for the longest time I have been using it to share link love to the commenters on my blog. I appreciate each and every one who took advantage of the feature and contributed to the content on my blog!

And yes, valid comments I consider a valuable content and love rewarding people for it! Link love is one of the easiest ways to reward.

Comment Spam Filter Comes To Rescue Akismet

Fighting Comment Spam on a WordPress blog is a never ending battle. Since I provide DoFollow options and use 2 plugins that reward commenters even more: CommentLuv and KeywrodLuv - I get a LOT of comment spam. Ever since I have switched from Spam Karma 2 to Akismet I’ve been testing multiple plugins that will assist me with this work and minimize the load.

Well, looks like I have just found a wining combination!

Why I Trushed Your Comment?

Because you refused to read the Comment Guidelines! I find it quite incredible how people CHOOSE to waste their time by leaving a comment on blog that is guaranteed to go to SPAM.

And yes, I say CHOOSE because failure to read a very small and self explanatory guidelines right above the comment form will get your comment directly into SPAM folder. I provide multiple ways to give value to commenters by sharing Link Love and providing DoFollow but you have to follow guidelines to enjoy the benefits!
