WordPress Security is becoming very popular topic lately but it is only natural. As platform becomes popular and widely adopted – it becomes a nice target to “crackers”. What makes matters worse is constant and aggressive upgrade cycle chosen by the developers and No Simple Way to keep up with them… almost (more on that later).

Upgrades that define the very innovative nature of the WordPress blogs are also the culprit of the Security Problems! It is what prevents the platform from becoming a true mainstream and keeping it within the “geeky” realm.

Do you have a plan? For your blog I mean? Is there an ultimate target you are pursing or are you simply going with the flow? A blog isn’t simply a blog. They vary a lot. Some bloggers target a mailing list to upsell products on the back end, while others intentionally help people to raise their social profile.

Whatever your game or intentions, you need to understand how important it is to have a plan. Sometimes when people go blank on me when I talk about plans I try to use the analogy of a railway and it’s tracks.

Bloggers have one major enemy. It is called distraction. We experience it everywhere we are, whether we blog in an office, at home or on the road. Sometimes this enemy is responsible for a whole afternoon of lost time that will never come back and it is enough to put us so off track we wish we never switched on the damn computer at all.

However bad the gloom at the time there are some sure fire weapons we can use against distraction.

Comment spam is quite annoying and while plugins such as Akismet do a fair job of reducing it – they still a lot to be desired. As result we see a whole lot of plugins coming out to address the missing functionality and add even more protection to Comments on WordPress blog. Problem is…
