Web 2.0 is popular, Web 2.0 is hip, Web 2.0 is fun …. but Web 2.0 is also very profitable. If my last statement something that doesn’t hit a chord with you might want to keep reading!

Almost 3 weeks ago David Ledoux, nominated my blog for as his entry for Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs in 2007 Contest run by Janette Toral at Reflective Thinking blog. My delay was also due to research as to present my own entry into this contest I wanted to make sure that it would be meaningful to you – my reader and present my own view. Also second part of that would be sorting out which blogs were new , as it never occurred to me to investigate this fact while reading blog posts.

So here we go, my nominations not including my own:

I know its only 9 and not 10 but these are the new blogs I read on regular bases for the info they provide and innovative ideas shared within.

This post is not meant to be an insult but a simple statement covering generalities. While more and more webmasters starting to realize incredible power that blog platforms offer, in general majority of Bloggers are content creators. And it’s a good thing!

People share their passion and deliver their message to the world, some simply more successful then others. But this also means leaving out some of the fundamentals of website building that greatly impact your success or failure.

In this post I want to talk about link building and some of the fundamental differences used by blogs and regular websites. I also want to discuss some of the ways we, as Bloggers can address and improve on it. I will only speak on most common and generic techniques and not try to cover the full spectrum of this very large [tag-tec]seo[/tag-tec] subject.

• Traditional Websites rely mainly on separate site sections containing links to other partner sites and build linking strategy around exchanging links with similar sites. Great attention is given to reciprocal link anchor text that weighs heavily on your Page Rank. Unless somewhat automated this can be a very tedious process that many times simply outsourced to save time.

• Blogs for the main part rely on referring to each other posts that directly relate to the current discussion topic. Blogroll was one of the ways to somewhat mirror link exchange of traditional websites by creating references to relevant blogs. Biggest issue with these strategies is luck of “anchor text” in [tag-tec]backlink[/tag-tec] that you receive. Links coming back to your blog can contain any random text that author of that blog decided to use for linking to you.

Why is “anchor text” of the link so important and why should it contain YOUR KEYWORDS and not random text? Google, being the biggest player, places tremendous amount of importance on this very simple fact and uses it heavily in algorithms for calculation of your Page Rank. It is not the single thing that is used by them and many other factors contribute as well, including quality of site the link is coming from and relevancy of content to your topic. And yet this very key factor is something that is missing from the most blogs linking strategy.

We go on participating in “link trains” and “viralink” that improves our technorati rankings but do very little for search engine rankings. We go on posting comments on relevant blogs in attempt to generate traffic and do many other things all the while ignoring one factor that can create a sustainable flow of targeted traffic – Search Engine positioning by using proper linking strategy.

Blogs are loved by search engines and I have seen some of my posts being in top 5 search results for short periods of time after initial posting due to search engine optimization done on that specific post. But every time they go away simply due to the fact that my site in general has a low priority according to Google and other less relevant blogs but with higher ranking take my place. So how do I fix this issue and how you can follow my lead?

I decided to adopt a variation of traditional website link exchange strategy and got myself over 4,000 one-way backlinks to my blog. Most of them are direct links from relevant content pages, coming from multiple sites that contain my main site keywords as “anchor text”, while others are keywords or key phrases linked directly form relevant content spear across multiple site. Will it pay off on next Google dance? I’d like to think so! Considering the low cost investment I made to accomplish this task I cannot loose, even if initial Page Rank will not be as high as I anticipate. How well you blog will rank? Not all plugins created equal and while all of them enhance [tag-tec]WordPress[/tag-tec] core functionality in one way or another some go way beyond and take [tag-tec]blog[/tag-tec] platform beyond its intended use be it a new way to present content, earn via AdSense or other affiliate programs, etc.

What you are about to read is my view of what innovation is and my personal opinion based on my own experience with these plugins. I’m creating it as much for my own reference as for your enjoyment. • FeedSmith – formerly known as Feedburner Feed replacement this plugin is a must have to extend options available for your RSS feeds. Perhaps one of the most useful functionalities of this plugin is extended stats about your feed readers.

• aLinks – an awesome plugin that allows you to monetize on your blog without annoying your readers. Simply specify keywords you would like to be linked in its admin panel and what affiliate product to link it to and all your keywords will be automatically replaced by affiliate links. My favorite part is ClickBank module that you can install with it but can also be used with Amazon associate program, which is essential for many niche blogs for income.

• Sphere Plugin is an easy to install addition that increases contextual value to your visitors by scanning your content and on-click generates a list of related articles. Without the need to write anything extra you get opportunity to give your visitors what they are looking for – information.

• Ultimate Tag Warrior and Tagalize It – these 2 in my opinion should be combined as once you install them – your blog turns into super tagged traffic machine loved by Technorati. Use of these plugins takes your WordPress blog into Web 2.0 generation and provides a way to easily identify all your posts.

• Share This - This plugin will allow your visitors to share your content via social bookmarking sites and/or e-mailing the post to a friend. Provides support for multitude of social networks without taking much of your precious blog real estate.

• Spam Karma 2 is one plugin I can’t imagine myself without. Once installed and activated with default options it has completely removed any comments SPAM from my blog while allowing everyone to comment without any issues. In over a month of usage I have only had one false positive, easily recovered.

• An-Archos – Anarchy Media Player plugin for your WordPress blog. One of the most feature-rich media player’s available, with excellent support and frequent updates. If adding all forms of video is important to you, I highly recommend you check this one out.

• PodPress – install this plugin to turn your blog into ultimate podcast platform. With complete support for iTunes, mp3 and other popular podcast formats it gives you freedom to create and capitalize on one of the most popular trends on Internet.

• GaMerZ WP-Plugins. There are too many to list here and each one is of excellent quality with great documentation. While each of them extends only small functionality of your blog I have found myself using so many of them that their combined effect makes these plugins a true modification of my blog. They are independent from each other and can be installed as needed, so feel free to pick what you like.

• AdSense Deluxe – most of the bloggers rely on AdSense for a source of income or as simply a way to at least partially pay for their efforts. AdSense-Deluxe is a WordPress plugin offering advanced options for managing the automatic insertion of Google AdSense or Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN) ads to your WordPress posts.

• All in One SEO Pack – search engine optimization is a must for your blog. This plugin takes care of some of the most daunting tasks associated with this effort and gives you freedom to do what you do best – write great content.

• Page Link Manager – yes, I consider this one an innovation! WordPress is great but I have found that controlling pages is not an easy task and requires some manual intervention and code editing. This plugin will become your savior when it comes to solving this problem. Now you can decide which pages are displayed in Navigation and which you can add to credits.

• Automatic Stats – extends core functionality of your blog and gathers stats on your blog that actually matter to you as blog writer. But the best part is – all stats are hosted by WordPress and don’t take up any of the resources on your server.

• WP-Translate is a simple drop in way for users to view your blog in their language. Its easy for any most users to add this functionality to their site. I haven’t tested it with latest version of wordpress so any comments on this one would be appreciated.

• WordPress Mobile Edition creates a version of your blog easily readable in PDA and new breed of cell phones that become so popular now days.

And last but not least a small trick that provides you access to extended functionality of WYSIWYG editor that I have found on Solo technology:

• To enable additional formatting options in your WordPress editor simply hit alt-shift-v (Firefox) or alt-v (IE) to toggle extended editor.

It was a regular day, just like any other and nothing was indicating any drastic changes. I was seating at work and peacefully reading my emails when one caught my attention. And I have to add that lately I’ve been getting pretty immune to various offers to “become a super affiliate”, “ earn the loads of cash”, “explode my online business”, “enjoy financial freedom” and such … you get the picture . Not that I see anything wrong with them, but simply because I get way too many of them and tend to delete, unless subject captures my attention.

This one was short and to the point and coming from “the god” – How Could I Simply Delete It? So I dove into reading and got a quick introduction to Michael Weston (“ The Affiliate God”). His offer was simple – earn from his proven techniques but I tend to be skeptical to these offers. So many people have covered [tag-tec]Affiliate Marketing[/tag-tec] and in so many different forms that finding something new or ground breaking is nearly impossible. And so I went replying that unfortunately I don’t promote a product I haven’t personally experienced and I don’t believe I will learn anything new from his eBook after nearly 2 years of [tag-tec]internet marketing[/tag-tec] – I have declined an offer from “ The God”! Blasphemy, huh?

Surprisingly Mike was quick to reply and included a complete eBook for review and now you have a chance to learn – does he really qualify to be called “The Affiliate God”? Will you benefit from his product?

Yeah, questions above are “loaded” and have no simple answer, as I’m not willing to hype-up the information just to get an affiliate sale (I do get paid for recommending it, so be aware).

What this eBook is:

• Very well written guide to affiliate marketing. It covers every major affiliate strategy that I personally know off and at least one that I didn’t in details that well fit for a complete newbie to the field and a veteran alike. I loved the flow of the information and comprehensive descriptions that make this eBook a very nice addition to affiliate marketer library.

• I personally think this eBook is especially great for people just starting out in affiliate marketing as it removes the complexities by using clear language, provides detailed information and yet keeps it very easy to follow.

• But perhaps the best part of the eBook is wealth of reference to multiple tools, resources and essentials that are critical to the specific strategy discussed in that section. Granted that you can find most of them elsewhere but being presented in one location and in right spot I think makes this guide very desirable as a great reference resource for even seasoned affiliate marketer. I saved it on my desktop for easy access as I have found at least 3 superb resources on first reading that I had no clue about. Here is one example for you:

What this ebook isn’t:

• This is not some new, ground braking affiliate strategy but instead a comprehensive guide to existing and proven to work strategies that have made me a very nice secondary income (yeah, I’m not full time marketer yet) and generated wealth for many many others. If you are in search for another Day Job Killer – this is not it! But I personally will use this guide as a great reference tool for me as it is filled with useful information in one convenient location.

To summarize my review:

• Is Mike “The Affiliate God” he claims to be? I have no clue! But I have found his sales letter very entertaining and worth the read at the very least :).

• Will You benefit from his product? I think so. I have been a webmaster for over 8 years and dubbing in affiliate marketing for close to 2 years and yet, I have found at least 2 resources from his guide I have already took advantage of and at least one strategy I haven’t used yet. You results maybe different but I will be keeping this guide close for the pure wealth of references within and relevant tools as they apply to each affiliate marketing strategy.

Either way – would you want to decline the offer from “The God”? Be sure to at least read his sales letter, I found it to be more entertaining then many blog posts I run across on daily bases.
