Excellent material, Jimmy, very good.

You mentioned junk sites that rank well but are badly written -
I believe Google is now trying to 'clean up' the quality of the landing pages that their adwords point to for just that reason. They may do the same for organic listings at some point.

While they are going about it in a heavy handed way (permanent bans on all ads forever), at least they are striking a blow for better quality internet.

Now if someone could just eliminate the spam I get every day in my inbox...or at least write it better so I'd be educated and entertained while getting pitched for 'super duper wate loss/phat phighter/belly buster tablets'!

Good job!

Great info here on writing. I agree, content is king, however, links are becoming as powerful if not more powerful then content. There is a lot of great content out there that may never rank in the serps, but a lot of bad content does rank because it was promoted and harnessed lots of links. Content is the foundation, but promoting your content and gaining links is just as important if you want your content noticed.

There seems to be such a heavy emphasis on SEO and rankings, but less on content. I think they both have to work together; online marketing helps get people to your website, but so too does traditional marketing. The issue is, once you get them, how do you convince them that the information you have is as Jimmy has indicated - entertaining or educational. I think the ultimate test of a website is no different to any other form of marketing collateral - does it convert visitors to some action - subscribe, contact me, buy or keep coming back until they are ready to make contact. The only way that can happen is if you have something of value to say to the visitor - entertaining or educational. The principles shouldn't change if you are serious about using your website as a marketing and sales tool. You still need to be unique, grab attention, be interesting, be credible and create a desire for what you have and then get them to so something about it.

To get sales you either need to offer you clients something noone else will (lower price/unique product) or make them want to buy something from you (quality content). Since the latter is a lot cheaper I think we can safely assume that everyone should focus on content if they want to make money.

Awesome post Jimmy....

I've read many-an-article about content, but this is tops! You laid it out very well.

I agree about adding humor to an article, it works! Many times I've found myself digging deeper into a particular blog if there is a taste of comedy or humor from the author. I think it's just a "human nature" thing; that a little comedy brings to a reader because it makes it much more interesting!

Thanks Jimmy, a well written concept. I do feel writing is like crafting an article and I love to take time on crafting articles. Content will always be the king and this is why have to write better articles
