Interesting points - some theme authors even advertise their themes on being SEO friendly , forgetting that at the end it will be the content that matters. Of course poorly coding can hurdle , but some SEO plug ins may reduce or even eliminate its effect.

Speaking of consistency as important as it is I consider content quality to be equally as important. In my case in order to review a film - I have to get the DVD, watch the film, research it , get it to my editor and then it appears on the site. With interviews the process can be even more complicated as it depends on the time availability of the person who is to be interviewed. Yet I think that one post a week or at least 1 post each two weeks is about optimal. The rest of the time can be spend on various initiatives such as SEO optimization of the existing articles , research...etc

Excellent blog, I always wondered why blogs seem to rank so poorly.
I am currently developing a website a bit at the time and will keep visiting your blog for tips.

Cheers

Some plugins like the All in One SEO for WordPress work on most themes, even the free ones without people having to modify the code, but yes, it definitely pays off to know how to edit the themes you get. That way you can make them more personalised and more SEO friendly.

I'm enjoying reading your posts. I'm new to your site. :)

I work really hard to cover what you mention with my blog and blogs I help other people with, and I can definitely see why so many blogs (and websites) fail. I'm often amazed by how many abandoned blog there are. Sometimes the blogs have great posts that I would have happily revisited but the owner gave up surprisingly early.

I'd like to share some thoughts on blogs to be effective. Some greatest blogs have an interaction between the writer and the audience that don't make the blog a site anymore but a community and the great insight or great content is interesting but if you are luck of it then you will lack of audience, this is the basic principle of of any blog.

Well, themes are definitely bad sometimes. I see a lot of 'cool' themes that generate duplicate content, others failed to include basic RSS autodetect code. You have pointed out the main reason behind this, designers and programmers are not SEOs.

Another thing that will kill a blog - you probably missed (or didn't want to include) is promotion or lack of it. Doesn't matter how good a person is writing, if he/she doesn't go out and promote the blog with methods like guest posts, paid advertising or social networking the blog is not going anywhere.

I think you are right on target with #2. Stop blogging stop traffic. This works both with search engines and you normal visitors.

I think the one failure reason can also be the lack of knowledge about the some internal functions within WordPress.

For example most people don’t know that WP pings the ping network every time when you do a change or update. This can lead to ping spamming and the result can be that your blog is suspended from the ping network and your message and posts are not distributed anymore.... :-(

Look here in wordpress.org and search for Ping Optimizer install and configure it, than you have this issue solved.

An other thing is the SEO optimization of your posts. The default posts are added with an post id, but this does not help with SEO optimization. You have to have your post subject to be included instead of an id.

Look here in wordpress.org and search for Permalink Redirect install and configure it, than you have this issue solved as well.

Spread the word and get your posts to twitter with Tweet Meme Button.

Take a look in wordpress.org and search for Tweet Meme install and configure it. Than your posts can be retweeted and you'll get additional exposure.
