Jail Time For Trick-or-Treating

Happy Halloween! That is unless you leave in Hampton Roads …
I have just finished reading an article on regulations for tonight’s festivities in my local area and was very surprised to find out that in my city (Virginia Beach) it is a Class 4 Misdemeanor to trick-or treat if you are older then 12! Not that I was prepping to pull out my costume and make a dash for free candies but isn’t it a bit excessive?
Here is a quote from the article directly related to my city:
The hours & rules for trick-or-treating in Hampton Roads
Virginia Beach: Children 12 and younger may go trick-or-treating until 8 p.m. Anyone trick-or-treating after 8 p.m. is committing a Class 4 misdemeanor. Anyone older than 12 making the rounds on Halloween night also is committing a Class 4 misdemeanor.
I guess I should be happy they don’t slap people with real jail time! And while I understand the necessity to protect the public I do have to ask the question …. What Are We Coming To?
What if in your family kids are different ages and 12 seems like a low age as many middle school students enjoy the traditional festivities as much as younger kids …

Yeah, I think that is silly. What a stupid rule. Kids should be able to trick or treat if they want. I have a 6, 12, and 14 year old. The 6 year old is going, of course, the 12 year is too cool, and the 14 year old wants to go, but I told him he may be too old. But if a teen came to my door to trick or treat, I would give them candy. But after 8:30…I turn my lights out, and don’t answer the door anymore. I think treating it as a misdemeaner is a bit over the top.

I agree and what is even more stupid - who is going to enforce this? Our tax dollars already went for these geniuses to meet and make the stupid decisions and now do we also have to support extra effort required by police to enforce it?
It is amazing how stupid people manage to climb on ever step of the political ladder. I’m just upset that I’m forced to pay for this stupidity ..
