Well I discovered now that there is a WordPress directory to search for all the plugins but I also found that each of the eight items mentioned that I searched for returns many examples by different authors which ones should I go for?

In the case of “Email To A Friend” I couldn’t find that at all although there were many references to email.

I like this list as I use most of them already and can agree with the review of each. My one big difference here though is the Database Backup plugin – I personally use WP-DBManager as it allows you to schedule not only when you will be mailed the backup (gzipped as well if you want) but also schedules a DB cleanup which I find saves me space too.
Other than that, great reading as always.

Interesting… I use very similar plugins yet they are different than those mentioned in this post. One other I want to mention is WP-PageNavi. This plugin will help ensure all posts are at most 3 clicks away from the homepage. Don’t make people dig for content (especially the search engines).

I agree with Clive about having links to the plugins. I tried using the search feature in the WP “Add New” plugins but the search results didn’t match the plugin titles in the blog post. There were – in some cases – multiple “sort of” matches. So, without links to the plugins being discussed, I didn’t know which plugins to install.
