2012 London Olympic Logo – Aim at Web 2.0 Generation Created Scandal
TheSpotter on June 6th, 2007
Tweet ThisIn attempt to generate more interest in upcoming Olympics London organizing committee spent $796.000 to create a flashy logo targeting younger generation. Statement by Lord Coe, the chairman of committee that cost was covered by private sector and doesn’t affect tax payers did little to ward off the scandal around it.
According to Sun “…. Olympics bosses were left squirming with embarrassment after an epilepsy group reported 12 cases of people collapsing through looking at it. Epilepsy Action warned that 23,000 mainly young people in the UK were at risk from the TV and internet version. They suffer from the photosensitive form of epilepsy and flickering images can trigger fits.”
Common people! Are we getting too sensitive? I have to admit that personally I don’t like the logo or the video ad, accompanying it and can’t believe that someone paid nearly a $800K for it but not to the point to protest it! At the moment of this post 40617 people have signed petition to change the logo. Quite a few people assuming that it has been released only couple days ago.
Watch the video below and please comment to let me know what you think!

Hi Alex, I think it is one of the worst examples that I have seen, it’s supposed to be promoting the 2012 Olympics and many people have come up with far better ideas than that pile of rubbish. As for the cost, how on earth can they justify it apart from lining their own pockets. What a complete waste of time and money, it really is deplorable!
Love your blog, keep up the great work.

Thanks for comments guys. I agree on the logo but still think that video ad was kinda cool, perhaps they should keep this one to target the young generation and combine it with more traditional representation for the rest.
After all London has so much history - not highlighting it is a huge failure and one of their biggest downfalls in my opinion.

I don’t like it much either but at least they have a few years to change it before 2012.

The scandal they created is overwhelming and the purpose behind that was truely remarkable.

A blog which doesn’t allow comments is still a blog. When I started blogging over six years ago, there were many many blogs already. Yes, I know it seems to many as if in the year 2000 you had to hunt around to find a blog. You didn’t. They were “everywhere”. Most have just closed down since then.

Clever ….
I removed URL from your name. Since I’m not 100% sure that is is the SPAM I left your comment in but without your URL.
I reward commenter’s but spam sites - I’ll remove and since this is the second comment coming from you using same URL (first was pure SPAM and deleted) I will not tolerate it.
