I love it when I can re-purpose a plugin designed for one thing and benefit with it in multiple ways! And as such I want to share with you a WordPress SEO plugin – SEO Smart Links and how to use it for effective affiliate marketing.

I’m a long time supporter of aLinks plugin and still include it as part of the Expert WordPress installer that you can download for free. Unfortunately owner of the plugin Sean stopped supporting it and I see a time when it will stop working due to some changed that I’m sure will be introduced sooner or later in WordPress core.

What is even more – you can’t download aLinks anymore and as such – I want to offer an alternative WordPress SEO plugin that can also be used for Affiliate Marketing!

Created by Vladimir Prelovac, author of the Amazing Grace and Blue Grace themes and an SEO consultant this plugin is extremely effective in its simplicity! It does one thing and does it well:

Finds Key phrases you Defined and turns them into Links You Want!

And the simplicity of the plugin is what I like as you don’t need to know much about SEO or linking, all you have to do is define what keywords you want to link to what pages.

Setup is very simple and I will not go into details but I do want to show how simple it is to create the links you need:

As you can see all I had to do is defined what keywords will link to what URL and then specify maximum number of links per post and how many times each individual key phrase can be linked on a single post.

Voila!

How To Use It For Affiliate Marketing?

I personally like the ClickBank products for affiliate marketing due to high commission percentage you get from sale! And now that CB created a masked affiliate links it because very simple to mask you ID to prevent to some small extent commission theft that CB is been plagued by.

All I had to do is search ClickBank Marketplace for a product with highest gravity for a keyword I want – in my case “SEO” and then create hoplink:

Once I have provided my affiliate nickname and Tracking ID (it is important that you track your efforts) I created masked affiliate link I can use:

All that is left is got back to Admin->Settings->SEO Smart Links and define to link:

And this way keyword SEO will be auto linked to the ClickBank product with my affiliate link. Nice huh?

Stomping The Search Engines 2.0 Goes Digital

I was one of the few who got lucky and managed to get my DVD and magazine when Stomping The Search Engines 2 launched a few month back! I can’t praise it highly enough for the amount of educational material it provides.

Granted they had some issues with fulfillment but it appears to be all addressed now! Better yet – STSE2 went digital! Not 100% but it is a default option now and you can begin watching the entire training instantly after paying just $1!

I know… Crazy!

that is what I thought! I mean when I shelled out for my DVD delivery a while back I thought it was a “steal” but now you have chance to grab it for even cheaper!

Spending time on acquiring those valuable backlinks that work wonders for your search engine rankings can be a full time job. What if you could do a little work up front to guarantee a steady stream of relevant backlinks to you blog, would you do like that?

Let me introduce you to Linkingpress, the Wordpress backlink plugin that delivers relevant, non-reciprocating backlinks to your Wordpress blog over time on autopilot.

Get Started.

Download Linkingpress. Unzip to your computer. Upload to your Wordpress plugin directory and activate. Click on options. Fill in the details. Done.

O.K., there is a little more to it than just that, but really, there isn’t much more.

Downloading and installing Linkingpress is just like most Wordpress plugins, you upload the plugin to your plugin directory and activate.

For categories, the choices are similar to the top level DMOZ categories.

Next, on to the keywords. What are the keyword phrases that best represent your Wordpress blog? Provide three different keyword phrases that you would like to use as anchor text in the description about your blog.

Here comes the important part – the part that some people seem to miss. You have a precious 255 characters to use that describes your blog. Use them well and make sure you include your exact keywords in the description.

Let me say that again.

Make sure your description includes the three keyword phrases you provided, exactly.

When a partner’s Linkingpress plugin serves up a description about your blog, the plugin will read your description and check to see if your keywords are included. If the plugin finds a match, then your keyword phrase is hyperlinked back to your domain. If it doesn’t find a match, then you missed out. A description will still get placed on the links page, but no outgoing links for your site will be provided.

Know that all of this information can be changed at any time. It might take 24 hours for details to update on partner’s link page, but the changes can be made at anytime, regardless.

Now is as good a time as any to mention that Linkingpress is a user moderated plugin. Make an effort to provide an appropriate description and keywords about your blog. You and your fellow plugin users have the option of rejecting whichever sites you want that are either linking in or linking out. Get rejected by too many other blogs and you won’t be receiving or giving backlinks. Enough said.

Here’s how it works

Starting with your blog – Linkingpress will add one outgoing link on your blog’s link page everytime your link’s page is visited and at least 24 hours have passed since the page was last updated. If your blog is a popular blog, and the links page gets visited on a consistent basis by regular visitors or search engine bots looking for fresh content, then you can expect that a new outgoing link will appear on your link’s page on a daily basis.

On the other hand, if your site is not very popular yet, more time might pass before more outgoing links are added to your link’s page. How frequently links are added depends on how often your links page is visited.

For example, if your links page was updated at noon on Tuesday, the earliest that another link will be added is on Wednesday at noon.

The same applies to your potential link partner’s blogs.

Tell me more

Remember those three keyword phrases you provided? Not all of them get linked every time your description is displayed. There is a little math being done in the background that determines which of your three links are displayed. There will never be all three keywords hyperlinked; either one or two of your keywords will be hyperlinked.

Over time, you can expect that your blog will give and receive an equal number of backlinks with approximately a third of the links going to one of your keyword phrases, a third going to your second keyword phrase, a third going to your third keyword phrase …

This plugin is not for the impatient. There might be days that pass before you receive a new backlink, and there might be days when you get multiple links to your blog. It all depends on how frequently Linkingpress link’s pages are visited.

And yes, if you are wondering, there is a catch to what I’m about to describe and even though it works like a charm right now – it is right there in the shades of gray as far as SEO concerned, so I don’t know how long this process will continue to work.

I know you probably read plenty of the reviews about the 3 way links by Jonathan Ledger and this is Not One Of Them!

Or rather – why you should watch what Google does in 2009!

I think that understanding the moves Google already made and continues to make is going to be very important to Niche bloggers in order to grab more traffic and better positioning in search results.

While obviously what I talk about here is not intended to resemble “bird watching” in any shape or form – I still want to outline some trends that are important…

And first in that line up of trends is a fact that Google managed to increase its Search dominance to seventy something percent last year, according to a report I read few weeks ago. Sorry, don’t have the link or exact number but the ball park is enough to make me want to be a part of the SERP’s they provide!

Not to mention several other moves by Google in the past…

Lets consider this:

In September 2005 Blog Search is introduced and allows you to get information created across multiple blogs. A system to get latest information AS IT HAPPENS as we all know – bloggers report things a lot faster then official news!
In October 2006 Google acquired YouTube. Video sharing service which generates more traffic then any other single site that is NOT search engine.
In May 2007 Google has purchased FeedBurner. A feed aggregator service many bloggers use and one that provides statistics on access to the feed and perhaps help determine relevance and importance of each feed?
Also in May 2007 Google started playing around with Universal Search, which was branded by some as Uber Search, as it provides in SERP’s not only web sites but also video, images, books and local search results.
July 2008 seen an introduction of Knol – a unit of knowledge as defined by Google and one you can contribute to. Kind of like wikipedia, which tends to dominate most of the search results.

And I’m no even mentioning here multiple changes to their AdSense and AdWords system and enhancements to Web Master Tools and Google Analytics. Tools that provided for free and allow Google have in place perhaps the most complete information about what happens on the web. They don’t just spider your pages anymore!

Google KNOWS more about your visitors and their Internet Navigation patterns and interests than we will ever know! And they are bent on providing those visitors with relevant information in form of Free Search results and Paid Ads (their revenue).

Seeing how the information comes to Google from multiple directions and yet for the same goal makes me wonder:

Do I participate in at least the services I mention above?
Do I make sure my proffered keywords lead to my pages from those services?
