It seems that no matter how much you write about free WordPress templates – choices infinitely expanding and new offers come in. And knowing the constant need of every blogger to “spruce it up” by modifying the look of their blog I want to offer a quick collections of great free WordPress themes I have found lately.

You decide if these themes fit your need or not but I liked them for one reason or another, although I didn’t test them. My need of customizing doesn’t stretch that far . Dig in!

WordPress magazine style theme “BranfordMagazine”

Nice magazine style theme heavily influenced and using some elements from Revolution themes, this one if a great option for many who look to have a custom appearance without shelling out cash.

I haven’t tested it but this 3 column theme comes SEO optimized and AdSense ready. Could be a true find for Niche Bloggers among us!

Blue Grace WordPress Theme

When I first time seen this theme all I could say was “WOW!”. Based on Amazing Grace this one is optimized to be lightweight and super clean. In fact it is so squicky clean I had to fight the urge to replace my current theme on the blog!

This theme has it all and most importantly with all the features – it has the looks and functionality! Nice clean layout with my personally favorite 3 columnt design.

DarkZen WordPress Theme

Theme uses darker colors but they are nicly coordinated and don’t hurt the eye, actually quite pleasant to llok at but perhaps the best things about this theme is that it is search engine optimized, comes with a placeholder for Ads (you can sell them or use for affiliate marketing) and also has social bookmarking icons integrated – no need for extra plugin!

This one comes from same designer who created theme currently used on this blog and while it is not released to public yet – it should be on your watch list. 5 widgetized areas: sidebar-top, sidebar-mid-left, sidebar-mid-right, sidebar-bottom and footer, jQuery Tabs for recent posts, recent comments and most viewed and Tab menu for page links make it more then functional and don’t forget about the look – it is simply one of the best.

nine O: Advanced Professional WordPress Theme

Advanced 3 column “widget” ready WordPress theme designed by MandarinMusing and Headsetoptions based partly on Greenway 3C.

This professional theme has an options page to change the header color, change the fonts, font color, upload sidebar image and much more. The theme has two right sidebars that are widget ready. The theme is also Google Adsense styled.

This theme comes with sponsored links and I wasn’t going to include it on my list but its dazzling look and built in functionality are so unique I simply couldn’t ignore it. While it might not fit the view of many blogs it can be a perfect match for an appropriate niche. Stylish look, widgets ready sidebar and social network buttons already included.

The Dezigner Folio Web 2.0 Theme

An awesome dark theme for WordPress that comes with additional functionality provided via plugins. Single sidebar but brilliant look compensates for this small minus. Great looking theme by Spanish blogger who also provides a pack of different headers to go with the theme and instructions on how to modify it to reflect different header. I’m not sure if this theme is widgets ready or not since author running it on older version of WordPress but integrating that functionality might be well worth the effort to take advantage of great look.

This one combines great Web 2.0 look and all the functionality I like to see, such as widgets ready sidebars and compatibility with WordPress 2.3.

Even though designer’s primary language is German he does provide English text to make it easier for you to understand what you are getting.

Ayumi Theme

Beautiful theme that has some unique features. Green and Red little bit blue color, 2 Right Sidebar, Widget Ready, Change About text via Admin Profile. According to author this theme is tested up to 2.2.x versions of WordPress so even if you have to do any changes for 2.3 it will be minimal.

I especially like the option of been able to change About section from admin panel. Makes it a lot simpler …

FH-Freedom-Reloaded is a re-work and modification of “FH Freedom blue 0.2” theme released by Frank Helmschrott. I was very impressed by the theme but have found that it was incompatible with WordPress 2.2 and widgets system integrated into new version. There was also an issue with many things being in German and some CSS issues.

To make story short – I have adopted the theme for one of my projects, fixed the functions to make it fully compatible with latest [tag-tec]WordPress[/tag-tec] release and modified columns layout and CSS styling to suit my needs. Unfortunately I have decided not to continue developing project it was intended for and since the theme is ready – I’m releasing it for your enjoyment.

Theme Features

• Fully compatible with WordPress 2.2 and widgets system.
• System has a left column for content and smaller right sidebar. I have done a mod that I personally found useful – right sidebar has actually 4 columns: 1 top column that uses full width of the sidebar; 2 side-by-side columns for smaller widgets and ads; 1 bottom column that also uses full width of the sidebar.
• CSS was modified to make it clean (as much as I managed, css is not my strongest skill) and fully compatible and tested with Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.4, IE6 and IE7. Based on my analysis this covers about 97% of all browsers and I didn’t test it in any others, which should work as long as they are properly process css.
• No additional plugins required to make it run properly.

Some Known Limitations And Support

• Theme is using a top navigation bar for all your pages so it obviously has a limited number of pages you can include.
• Each navbar button is of fixed width and you will have to watch the length of the Page Name to make sure it fits the size.
• Top bar is not required to be used for widgets. Was created as I was intending to include AdSense code using Text Widget but if you decide that you don’t need it, simply don’t put anything in Top Column and it will be ignored by theme.
• CSS issues. I haven’t found any with exception of dashed line in sidebar for listed items, sometimes you might end-up with couple of them, one after another, but since CSS is not my strongest skill – you are on your own. It works properly but any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
