Have you ever dreamed of becoming rich and famous? Of course, everybody does, but not everyone have what it takes to be a movie star or a world famous supermodel. But, have you ever considered that even regular people like you can become famous through blogging? Indeed, blogging can bring you fame and it can even make you rich.

As an online business owner, you know that the key to success in your online business is by getting targeted traffic in your website. Targeted traffic is the type of people that you want to visit your website and not just anyone in the internet. To do this, you need to advertise your products throughout the internet through affiliate programs, banners, emails, article publishing websites, and etc.

However, have you ever considered blogging as a tool for marketing?

Basically, blogging is what people use today as a sort of journal. Some use it as an outlet of their frustrations by writing about it, others use it as a diary where people put in everything that happened to them on a particular day, but there are some people who found out that blogging can be a great tool for marketing.

You have to consider the fact that people do love to read blogs. And, with the millions of people logging in on the internet on a daily basis, you can just imagine how many people might enter your blogging website and read your blogs.

So, how can you market your products or services in a blogging website?

Well first of all, you have to remember that you should never treat blogs as a marketing tool although this is your purpose for it. Instead, try treating it as a way to communicate with other people. The last thing that people wants to see in a blog is some salesman trying to aggressively sell their wares on the blogs they wrote.

So, how can you sell your products?

You’ll be surprised as to how many ways you can market your products. You have to remember that people don’t like salesmen trying to push their products up on their faces. What they want is someone who is a regular person like they are who knows a little something about a particular thing, which is your product.

What this means is that when you write blogs, never try to be a salesman. Instead, you have to think like a customer who tried your product and loved it. Ask yourself what they would say about your product in a blog. By thinking and writing like a customer, you will be able to relate to other people. You will be on their side and you will be their friend.

That is how you should market on blogs. You need to be a customer who is satisfied with the products or services you are selling and that you are simply want people to know about it and that you recommend it. If you believe in your product or services so much, then you won’t have any problems at all.

To make this even more believable, try adding some of the pros and cons of the products. But, don’t emphasize the cons, just try to mention it.

Blogging can bring you fame if you do it right. Remember these tips and you will be well on your way in making your blog famous as well as your business and the products or services you are selling.

Blog Page Load Speed is one of my personal obsessions And not only because Google have decided to use it as one of the ranking factors but also because I KNOW that it impacts how your blog manages to retain the readers.

Obviously it helps if content on your blog also presents some information useful to your readers but hey, that is non-technical aspect I will not be talking about right now! What I’m concerned with is how to Decrease Your Blog Page Load Speed using technology and still retain functionality!

Improving Page Load Speed

While there are many ways to get the job done, and I have described a few options in my previous posts:

• How To Get More Traffic To Your Blog By Getting Rid Of Bloat

Today I want to talk about One Nifty plugin that will have dramatic impact on your blog.

Autoptimize WordPress Plugin

It does one thing and it does it very well:

It concatenates all scripts and styles, minifies and compresses them, adds expires headers, caches them, and moves styles to the page head, and scripts to the footer. It also minifies the HTML code itself, making your page really lightweight.

I like the fact that it works exceptionally well with WP-Super-Cache plugin making optimization of your entire blog a lot simpler process, while still retaining your functionality and if necessary dynamic nature of it!

There are a few other good options I have considered but at the end chosen not to use that perform similar functions, in some cases a lot more extensively!

Other Plugins To Improve Page Load Speed

I have tested some of the plugins listed and only read about others, so please use your best judgment if you choose to implement any of them, as my personal preference right now is on combination of “WP Super Cache + Autoptimize” plugins:

W3 Total Cache

This plugin is actually a complete caching system for your blog and should be used by itself as it provides pretty much every optimization to improve your blog speed that you need.  I have to admit that I have attempted to use it but then gave up.

W3 Total Cache was not designed to run on server combination we have chosen to use on our sites: nginx+php-fpm.

Granted I could spend more time and based on initial tests – this plugin have outperformed WP-Super-Cache by at least twice with very little configuration but I was simply too short on time and settled for what I know works, as good enough! We are still in process of learning all the complex re-write rules we need for nginx and this plugin requires quite a few of them to run properly, which is a non-issue if you use standard Apache webserver!

WP Minify

Created by one of my favorite plugin coders Thaya Kareeson WP Minify allows you to integrate minify engine into your blog. And no, don’t worry – minify installation is extremely simple and can be done on shared hosting So there is nothing to stop you from using it!

How Does it Work?

WP Minify grabs JS/CSS files in your generated WordPress page and passes that list to the Minify engine. The Minify engine then returns a consolidated, minified, and compressed script or style for WP Minify to reference in the WordPress header.

Both of the alternative plugins I have provided require just a bit more involvement with your blog and additional steps but I think they return HUGE benefits if you take the time to do it. Just please read the instructions they come with and you will be rewarded!

You have a well-established blog with more than a hundred articles. Your recent publications are always hyped. But what happens with them after a few months pass and they become part of your archives? Are your readers able to find them?

This issue has been critical for many sites that publish reviews or articles that don’t necessarily have a crucial time span. The two fundamental solutions are to either make your archives attractive (which in itself are a challenging task) or draw attention to the content in your archives that is related to the newest articles.  This is where the concepts of related posts becomes important. Thankfully there are several plugins for WordPress that can help you interlink articles in your blog (which as an added benefit is good search engine optimization as well).

Some of the well-known and reputable plugins for related posts are:  Darren’s Related Posts plugin (relies on the keywords you have used in the various articles), Sphere Related Content and Yet Another Related Posts plugin. The third one is more reputable than the others mainly because of the flexibility of algorithm customization it provides.

Yet, in this post, I would like to bring to your attention another alternative that I have been using successfully on my site for the past year – The Outbrain Widget, which combines the best features of the tree plugins listed above, while adding an additional layer of interactivity to your site by letting users rate your articles and see related content based on the rates they have been given.

Ever since installing The Outbrain Widget,   I have noted an increased interaction with the site by visitors who clicked on the image thumbnails (auto generated by the service) to discover more about the topic they are interested in. While The Outbrain Widget provides a text based recommendation as well (it recommends your articles related to the one which your visitor is reading or voting for), the thumbnail recommendations works great for blogs and sites which feature a lot of well selected graphics, as they serve as an additional teaser to the readers. Best of all, The Outbrain Widget rating and recommendations widget is completely free of charge and provides valuable statistical information about the articles your readers found most useful.

If you are a regular reader of my blog perhaps you have noticed that once again I have been slightly absent from regular posting, to say the least! And while I hope Monika provides you with enough information to digest and act upon I wanted to provide a quick explanation…

While I can’t provide full details just yet… for multiple reasons, I had to work over last month on checking, configuring, testing and now migrating bulk of my sites, blogs and business sites to a new host that would allow me create a more controlled, stable and easily expandable environment.

MediaTemple VE server was our final choice as it provided us with all the features we needed and given our technical background was a fairly logical jump. One of the biggest switches was to migrate all out sites, scripts, payment processing, blogs, etc to a new platform: Nginx+FastCGI

Incredible combination that is currently supported this blog and many other thing. Unfortunately migration is not complete yet, so I will be absent a bit more but perhaps I will share the process to those technically inclined to duplicate, if there is enough interest.

What drives you to churn out blog post after blog post without traffic, sales and people commenting? With the rise of meta blogs (those are make money blogs for the uninitiated) came the idea that having a blog must be cool. Thousands upon thousands of people come online with the idea of wanting to make it big with their blog, then somewhere along the way they lose their Mojo.

I see it happen all the time. Heck, I stopped counting the number of clients who’ve ordered a WordPress blog package from me and then one month later they have packed up shop for good – because they stopped caring for their blog. They among thousands of others have also lost their Mojo. Perhaps they NEVER even had it – it was just a flutter of inspiration that had them belief that blogging was the cool thing to do.

Blogging is serious business for some, fun for others

Before you even join the growing number of failed bloggers do yourself a favor and ask yourself “why.” Why do you feel the urge to start a blog? Are you doing this for fun, or business?

The answers will guide you to a better start. Once you can clearly define your blogging purpose it will be easier to come up with a schedule. Trust me on this.

Mojo madness

When your Mojo is in prime blogging mode you will churn out post after post, almost on autopilot. You’ll feel like a freaking robot on steroids, and no amount of distraction can get the better of you. This is blogging done at its best. In order to protect that state of mind you need to nourish it, feed it with good input. Do not make the mistake of tempting your Mojo with “cyber fast food” because that would be committing blogging suicide.

Magnetic blogging

Magnetic blogging is done with the help of your primed-for-action Mojo. If you want to keep your blog fun, interesting to read, informative, and entertaining you need to be able to stand out from the masses of other blogs on the Internet. Get creative, fire up your Mojo and get blogging.

I have to admit, I have a Love/Hate relationship with spammers on my blog:

• I Hate the time and effort that goes to waste to deal with them
• I Love the inspiration they provide me with to constantly evolve the methods of dealing with them and also Content I create on the topic

It seems that no matter how solid of a protection we put in place – it only works for a while and then we begin to see an influx of comments filled with bunch of BS that supposed to make me “feel good and approve their crap”.

Think again!

I consider comment spam a “low level” attack on my blog, as I have described in my post Triple “P” Of Total WordPress Security. While there is still quite a bit of Spam Bot activity – I see an ever increasing amount of human generated spam.

It seems that outsourcing comment spam becomes quite popular option and it is no longer limited to  Internet Marketing niche and standard adult sites and pills, as I seen it before. I see it now used for just about anything that could be sold on internet and every time I look up the IP range where this comment comes from – it clearly indicates third world countries where labor is cheap.

And So I say, using the variation of well known phrase:

To me this is a battle,  it is personal and I’m getting quite good and quick on pushing that “SPAM” button. I will continue to improve the automation and share it with my readers to help others beat your idiotic efforts.

If you think your blog sucks, it probably does since you are your own worst critic. There is however no real shame though, because many bloggers started a new blog not knowing how it was going to turn out years down the road. Even the great John Chow started his blog as a personal blog without any intentions of making money. And as they say, “the rest is history.”

You may currently be at a crossroad where you are making an important decision on how you can bring your blog to the next level of success. You probably have made some big mistakes before on your blog and are perhaps wiser now; hopefully. But if not, here are 3 things to consider making improvements to your blog to make it better.

1. Your Blog’s Design

Would you like to see your blog well optimized (SEO and all that good stuff), with all the right link-building strategies and now proudly sitting on Google’s page 1 for your main keyword you want to rank for? Of course you do. But, what if it is a real eyesore and has all the flaws of a badly designed blog? Well…that might be a real problem. Most people I know won’t even go near one even if the content is of exceptionally good quality. It negates whatever benefit of high traffic the search engines send you simply because your visitors aren’t going to stay very long at your blog – if they stay that is.

If you are getting tired of your blog theme, chances are your regular visitors are too, and it may be a good idea to consider changing it. In fact, I just chanced mine as this happened to me. Not that my old theme was an eyesore, but it was time for an upgrade of sorts.

There are even bloggers who change their theme frequently, sometimes every three months or so as to maintain a fresh look. With so many free themes that you can choose from, you could be spoiled with choices; although, personally I much prefer to pay a little more for a premium theme and stick with it. Those people who have done so will know just what I mean. Seriously, if you are looking for quality, uniqueness, and flexibility, SEO and with a little money to spend, a premium blog or a custom blog theme is definitely what you should go for.

2. Content

It’s always wise to do a quick review of your blog’s goals and objectives and determine if the content you have built are in relevance to them. A good blog has a well-defined set of goals, and when optimized with the right keywords, brings in very targeted traffic. Most visitors may not appreciate reading about your daily activities or which restaurants you eat at – unless of course you happened to be John Chow.

On a serious note, it’s important that your content fits the purpose of your blog and that you, for the most part, adhere to this. It’s okay to stray every now and then and get a little off-topic. After all, we’re all human and sometimes our personal side wants to come out. There’s nothing wrong with that. But, don’t forget your blog’s ultimate purpose. If anything, try to relate your personal journeys to your niche in some way. This allows you to be personal and at the same time stay relevant to your blog’s objectives.

3. True Dedication

Maintaining a blog is a long-term affair, and you must commit both time and dedication to it before you begin to see any positive results. If you truly put in the time and energy to make something out of your blog, it could very well turn out to be a successful and functional blog.

However, success will take time, and it’s important to be patient and keep working hard at it. Nothing great ever comes from not working hard.

Following these 3 simple tips will turn that “sucky” blog of yours into something that you can really be proud of.

One of the greatest struggles that I had in blogging is gaining traffic from a less targeted niche. My blog is a religious blog and I really do not know if how many people are interested in discussing such things.

When my blog is already 3 months old, the traffic still ranges from 10 to 15 visitors a day, and most of those visitors came from my own clicks.

I thought my blog will never make it to top, and it will continue to have a small size audience especially that its niche is all about Christian living and religion to which I believe is not a popular niche.

But after a year of blogging in this niche, my blog is slowly coping up where most of my visitors came from raw searches over Google and Yahoo. And now, my blog is one of the top most Christian blogs in the Philippines (based on Topblogs.com).

What are the key factors in gaining raw search engine traffic? I will not be talking about SEO. I assume that most of you who are reading this post know exactly how to SEO your website. Rather, I will be talking about things that you need to develop in your inner being as a blogger.

1.    Perseverance – I think this is where most blogger fail. Blogging needs perseverance because traffic and page ranking takes time to gain. It is not an overnight process. It needs hard work.

Most bloggers surrender in writing after 2-3 months. But blogs usually gets a good recognition from the search engines (granted that you have good well optimized and written articles) only after the 3rd month unless you post well written articles every day. That is when your traffic starts to boom. That is when you start gaining subscribers and readers.

There is no blog guru that will say their blog is an “instant money making machine.” Though, it can really be done probably by highly talented internet marketers, but for regular bloggers, I doubt if get rich quick scheme is readily applicable in blogging.

But granted that you are a regular blogger who started from scratch, it would mean more perseverance on your part because creating a good reputation and credibility takes time.

2.    Delivering  genuine information – I am referring to good quality information, not driven by money, not driven by hypes. I must admit that once I fell on this mistake.

When my blog is still a few months old, I was very eager to make money online. And so I have been trying to market my products. Then I found out later that even those people who have been my friends are a little turned off to what I have been doing.

And so I decided to stop my existing marketing strategy. I switched to delivering high quality content. I started to help people in my niche solve their problems, and giving what they really need.

Now, people just subscribe to my blog. And guess what, I don’t even tell people to buy this or buy that anymore. By simply putting some related affiliate products within the posts, my visitors voluntarily buy because that is what they are looking. It is what they need.

But if you are for selling something, Ken Evoy made a good point on what he calls preselling.

Don’t sell but presell.  Tell your customers all about your product, present it in a way compelling, that they will never say no once you arrive at the time when you will ask them to buy.

3.    Following the advice of the “REAL” gurus – I hate to say this, but there are lots of money making gurus out there whose blogs where intended for all the hypes so to speak. I respect their choice, but I strongly believe that business blogging is for delivering information and not hypes.

So if you are a newbie, I strongly recommend that you only choose the gurus that deliver a good deal of information. You can always sense the real gurus, the real people who have the “know-how”.

As for me, I want to recognize those great guru bloggers who made a great impact in my blogging attitude.

Ken Evoy – SiteSell
Brian Clark – Copyblogger

I have seen some more “real deal” gurus like the staffs of Blogussion and the whole WordPress Community. But there are literally more hype-maker bloggers out there than good ones.

So I strongly suggest that you look for those real deal gurus. The three above are highly recommendable, which also compels me to make this article because I know that these people can really help.

4.    Be Optimistic – Optimism can do lots of things in one’s life. It can turn your world upside down.

I know that we have been living in a world full of negativity. The economy went down, cost of living grows higher, wars, famine, etc.

Behind all these things that are happening in our world, there lies hope. “We can still work it out” this is the usual response of optimistic people.

There are times that you will be discouraged with the flow of traffic and income on your blog. But be positive. This is the ingredient that will keep you moving.

Optimism brings you to a whole new level of “purpose-driven” blogging. That despite of the negative things happening, you will still continue doing and improving your blogging habits.

In the end, blogging is more than making money. It is more than expressing yourself. Blogging is helping people, it is relating to your readers and helping them solve their problems, and delivering to them what they need.

Becoming a Problogger starts in our inner being. Try to upgrade it, and your blogging habit as well as your blog income will also be upgraded naturally.

Whew! What a question, huh?! But really – Do You Read Your Own Blog?

Do You Know what your regular readers view each time they get new content from you?

I think it is overlooked by many bloggers and can’t quite understand why – Your Blog RSS Feed is one of the ways you deliver your content, I’m sure you are proudly displaying that badge with number of RSS readers but have you taken the time to regularly check how your content presented in multiple RSS readers?

I’m not talking about each and every reader, but you have to check at least some of the most popular to ensure that message you are delivering on your blog conveyed properly to people who have chosen the convenience of RSS Subscription

While there are MANY ways people access your content provided by RSS – I like to check some of the most popular and here are some of the stats provided by FeedBurner for my blog:

As you can see above I have rather large number of subscribes via aweber RSS so I make it my priority to subscribe to my own feed via email and check it each time I publish post but I also highlighted a few other RSS News aggregators responsible for delivering my content to readers.

While you don’t have to subscribe to each using each and every service – I highly recommend you at least check out how your content presented in the most used by your readers.

You work hard on creating content – be sure your presentation is consistent!  Read Your Own Blog!
