But if you don’t blog correctly and use professional copywriting tactics, then your blog content is only going to turn out so-so. This means that you will be missing out on the steady traffic that you could have gained if your posts were sharp, compelling, and intriguing to your reader.

Blogging the right way can improve your search engine rankings and even build your back links. When you write content that is exceptional and attractive, readers will be likely to pass along to their friends and link to it in social media. If your content is flat and poorly written, then no one will want to read it, bottom line.

The truth is that excellent blogging is achieved by going back to copywriting basics. Starting with the obvious…

Don’t write only for the search engines!

Yes, it is important that your blog content contains keywords to appeal to the search engines, but you do have to draw the line somewhere. It is much more important that you are writing on relevant hot topics that readers will actually be interested in. Here is a challenge for you. Set up a Google News alert based on your specific keywords and stay up-to-date on the most relevant content. You can also check out your keywords in social media and on social bookmarking websites like Digg.

Make it your priority to blog on hot news content related to your industry as it happens. Then, and only then, can you sprinkle in your keywords where they make sense. If you focus heavily on SEO copywriting, it will sound mechanical and forced. A reader can spot SEO copywriting from a mile away.

Instead, write for both your readers and the search engines. When your blog content is compelling, interesting, and full of valuable information, it will be linked to again and again. This will improve your search engine rankings much more effectively than attempting to stuff your blog posts full of keywords.

Keep your sentences short and sweet.

As an online reader yourself, you may have noticed that you are likely to scan a blog post before reading it in its entirety. You are probably doing it right now as we speak! That is the nature of online readership. Readers will skim through a post to check out relevant subheadings and bullet points before committing to reading a post completely.

To make this work to your advantage, focus on riveting headlines, subheadings, and bullet points. Use shorter paragraphs and shorter sentences. This will make your content easier to read. When in doubt, break up a longer sentence that is connected by “and” or “but” to give it better readability.

Write to your target audience.

If you already have a social media presence, then you should know exactly who you are targeting in your blog posts. If not, then you need to take the time to do some important research before forging ahead as a blogger.

Understanding your target audience will make it easier for you to select the tone and topic of each blog post. You can also observe conversations in social media to see what language your customers are using when they discuss products related to your industry.

Then, use the same language when you write your blog posts. This is an excellent marketing tactic that will help readers naturally identify with your blog since you are using the same language that they use. It creates a sense of familiarity and will facilitate loyal readership for your blog.

You can use the tips listed above to transform your blogging style and keep your readers coming back for more!

Perhaps you are just starting out, or else you’ve been in the industry for some time. For some reasons your muse keeps getting stuck. Whatever you try just doesn’t seem to work and no amount of pen sharpening activity brings you the desired result – hard-hitting copy.

Don’t worry, you are not alone. Like many, I certainly have my struggling days too, and when I do it is usually because of unwanted distractions, or because I just can’t get into the flow.

Copywriting pros share a common skill in how they craft their sales letters. If you are anything like me then you probably own a nice swipe file of the best copywriting headlines ever written.

There is certain mystery in trying to uncover the reasons behind a great headline, but once you dig right into the content you’ll soon understand the structure and makeup of such a site.

To help you move on the following tips might help.

Headline 101

The headline of a salespage copy is THE most important aspect of it. It is about 80 percent of the work. If done right, your story/letter will be the icing on the cake to make your prospect reach for his/her credit card.

You should therefore spend most of your creative energy on crafting a killer headline. I usually start out by writing down dozens of headlines after getting some inspiration from the real pros. I never copy a headline word for word. I think that would be stealing. I much prefer to alter the copy to fit the purpose. There are literally thousands of words and synonyms you can apply to just about any niche. The result is sizzling copy.

Storytelling

Experienced copywriters are GREAT storytellers. They can lead you from their own experience with the product to being a true convert by the time you’ve reached the “buy now” button. It’s a gift that is rarely inborn, but needs honing to a fine art over many years.

A lot of the best copy online is written with a subtle undercurrent – you never realize it’s there. It just keeps pulling you in all the right directions (i.e. toward the opt-in/purchase).

Experts call it the art of response copywriting. It actually makes sense. If done right, response copy triggers a …

RESPONSE from the reader. It gets the sale, the opt-in, the click.

Call to action

Without a definite call to action you won’t write hard-hitting, converting copy. You have to tell the reader what to do next. A lot of people assume that they already know. I’ll let you in on a little (secret).

They don’t

People are like herds of cattle, they need to be driven down the path. Unless your [pen] doesn’t tell them what to do they will simply click out, having lost you a potential sale.

You can craft several call to action links into your salesletter. Don’t assume everyone will scroll all the way to the bottom because your copy is so great. Give people the opportunity to act beforehand.

PS/PPS

Post scripts and post post scripts are often used to negate your last objections to the sale with the help of cleverly placed guarantees, promises and special offers. By creating urgency salesletters tempt you to buy now, before the price goes up, etc.

This part of the salescopy is responsible for a fair amount of sales and should not be underestimated by copywriters.

What next

If you liked this post, then please tell us so by scrolling down to the comment section. I always love feedback from readers, whether good, or bad. I hope you picked up some new “tricks” that can help you a) buy smarter, or b) write better.

Rock on!

If your capability to churn out articles is halfway decent it should be easy enough to write an article on any topic, and then submit it to article directories. Are you still with me?..

Good!

How would you feel with a surefire copywriting recipe that will help you get more clicks, more exposure, and ultimately more sales for your article marketing efforts? I’m sure that most of you would part with some good money to find out the “secret” to doing exactly that. Guess what, the information is freely available to you on the Internet.

To save you from having to dig and poke around the Web to getting all clued up I have compiled this post. It will help you to increase your article marketing efforts with a few simple tweaks…

The 5 essential ingredients to article marketing success

If you want to really supercharge your efforts then you need to pay close attention to the following “ingredients.”

1. Your title: What does the title promise the reader?

If you fail to deliver on your initial promise you readers will simply click away because they get bored. They will feel cheated, since you never delivered on your initial promise. It also helps to use good copywriting practices when you are looking for increased click-through rates.

2. The lead-in: The article lead-in, also called an introduction needs to prep the reader for what is to come. Are you promising them a good deal for a product? If so, make it sound interesting to prompt them to read on. Web readers don’t have a long attention span. In fact, they tire real fast, and you only have a few seconds to catch their attention, or they will be gone forever.

3. The meat: The article meat is where the main action is; the tips and tricks you promised them in the title, or the secrets, the bargain deals and what not. This is where you can really impress your readers with some meaty information, and blow them away by over-delivering on your copy.

4. The bridge: Your bridge is the copy that ties your meat to your resource box. Before you encourage your readers to click on your links you want to make sure that they are once again reminded about the promises you made to them within the article and then show them where to go to fulfill that promise.

5. Resource box: Much has been written about writing the perfect resource box for your articles. In my own experience I have found that making this part of the actual content will get you more clicks than if you were to separate it. The resource box must be targeted to prompt the reader to click out from your article before he/she leaves the site. Once again, this is the place where you use your writing and copyediting skills like a master ninja. It’s the last chance you get to leave a lasting impression.

They are responsible for billions of dollars of sales. A great squeeze page can make you a lot of money, whereas a poorly written and designed one will leave you wondering what went wrong.

You don’t have to be a kick ass copywriter to craft compelling sales copy. Having said this, you do need some idea of what makes people tick; why do they act the way they do; what colors make them reach for the credit card; and what font is reaching their subconscious?

Catchy Headlines

Your headline plays a huge role in the success (or the lack of) your squeeze page. If you take the time to analyze some of the more popular IM products you’ll see that most of them use red color in their headline. The headline needs to be catchy, attention-grabbing, big, emotional and bold. You only have a couple of seconds to impress or repel your visitors. Your headline is the first thing they see when visiting your page, so make it count.

Test, test and test some more

I think it goes without saying that you must split-test until the cows come home. Successful marketers split-test everything on their squeeze pages; the headline, the layout, the color, the font, the message, etc.

KISS

KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid refers to the page layout. You want to keep the layout clean, easy on the eye and uncluttered. Common squeeze page modules include:

Headline

Bullet points

Opt-in form

Picture and/or video

Terms

Freebie offer

Emotional Attraction

If your copy is good, it will manage to touch the reader’s emotions. This is key if you want high conversion rates. People buy because they have pain, fear, needs, a need to know, a desire to belong, etc. A good copywriter works with these emotions when he/she crafts the copy for a squeeze page. You don’t need many words to convey a certain emotion.

Bullet Magic

Bullet points should be used to state the biggest benefits your product or service will provide. They also help to provide scarcity, give away something for free or simply to state the obvious.

Visual Magnetism

A picture speaks a thousands words, so does a video. By adding an image of yourself, or of your product, or a video to your squeeze page you add credibility and built trust with visitors. It makes you more credible. Pictures also help to magnetically draw the reader’s eye to the offer.

Use A Strong Call to Action

Never assume your readers know where to click. Tell them! Use strong verbs to get your readers to act.

Legal disclaimer

In order to protect yourself against the unknown it is a good idea to include some form of legal mambo jumbo in your squeeze page. A short statement that states that you don’t spam is giving your readers peace of mind.

There you go. Did I forget something? Let me know below.

I know I have. I prefer to be told what to write about because I can focus on the request at hand rather than having to come up with an idea. Trying to think of something to write about always throws up the next question: “What if it isn’t what the readers want?”

The information age is a curse in disguise

The first problem we all face is the fact that the information we publish is rarely unique in the sense of having never been published before. Unless of course you invent something new. Just about anything you publish online has in some form been published elsewhere – of course you are trying to spin it with your own unique voice, therefore avoiding any duplicate content issues.

But the core information we write about and record on video has mostly been featured elsewhere. This throws up the next question “why bother at all?” It’s a good question. Here is the thing as I see it; if we stopped publishing, this thing called Internet would fizzle out into nothingness. Since the Net is a pulsating, living medium, it needs new content on a consistent basis.

Imagine what would happen to the search engines if we’d stop writing about the “same” stuff. They’d die because they rely on fresh content being added. In fact, I would go as far as saying that we wouldn’t need them any more. We could simply build online databases of websites that fit a specific topic and leave it at that… or could we?

Never be stuck gain

Picking a topic to blog about isn’t hard when you take the following suggestions into account:

Write a news post about your niche; what is hot, what is not

Write a tutorial style post; showing readers how to do something is a great way to gain a steady following

Write a show off post; have you done something worth mentioning? If so, show off but be careful as this can quickly be seen as self-centered chest bashing which isn’t appreciated by most readers

Get controversial; controversy sells! The more controversial you are, the more traffic your post will attract. Having said this, you should avoid getting too personal

Hold a competition; this is one of the best ways to attract a ton of traffic, especially if your prizes rock

Write a humorous piece; funny (always) wins readers

Be opinionated; this can actually lead into controversy

Write a hack style post; hack a system, software or program and then show the world how it’s done

Still stuck? Reduce distractions!

Distractions are a surefire way to kill your creativity. If you are exposed to noise, other people or kids it is very hard to concentrate. In that case you might want to go somewhere quiet to write your post in draft. If that doesn’t help, walk away from your computer. A short break can work wonders for a creative mind.

The above ideas are really just the start to get you thinking about blog posts. You might even find that any of them will lead to something bigger and better. Anything goes. Personal stories also work well on most blogs because they show the reader the real person behind the message. It’s a great way to attract a following and build trust.

I’m not sure what you do when you are stuck for ideas to write about; I tend to get frustrated and usually walk away from the task at hand until I find some inspiration to continue. I also found that by picking up a book or collection of poems inspiration can strike unexpectedly. Other ideas are; scanning newspaper headlines (great copywriting trick); watching a movie (get inspired by a single quote); listening to music (you’d be surprised what an old song can tell you).

Feel free to share your “recipes” for content creation. What do you do when you get stuck for ideas?

And while I have provided a simple answer – I have to admit that on second review of my answer – I wasn’t happy with it!

That answer wasn’t exactly what my customer was looking for and not something I was personally satisfied with. My apologies to Xavier and since “Identifying Content Uniqueness” is rather common question – I want to give detailed answer in form of post.

Blog Content Copyrights And Uniqueness

While there are some tools that will help you find if your content unique or not and if it was taken and used by someone else – Copyscape is undoubted leader. Using it is extremely simple, just enter full direct URL to your post and you will get results back:

In image above I simply entered full url to my blog post “Triple “P” Of Total WordPress Security” and it provided me with several results.

Problem is – FREE version of the tool is limited to number of results returned and if you test it – you will find that many times you get a lot of false positives. If you are working a lot with PLR content or purchasing content from elsewhere – I recommend you look at Premium account options they offer to take advantage of their technology.

If you are looking to simply watch your blog to make sure that your content is not stolen and reused by scrapers elsewhere I want to share a great free tool with you that I learned about from “Stop Scrapers and Spammers Fast” blog post on Darren Rowse blog – CopyGator!

While it is not same in functionality as Copyscape it does well what it does, and FREE!

Interestingly enough it provided me with a better results than Copyscape as far as my content concerned and a lot more accurate!

While they offer you a nice badge to place on your blog as “Option 1″ that actually turns red when your content used somewhere else – I preferred Option 2 as shown in image below simply because all I have to do is add their RPC to my ping list and provide my feed. Now every time I will post new blog post – Gator gets notified and monitors it.

Simple, Effective, Non-Intrusive!

Allow Google Alert You For Content Usage

This option is more advanced and it will actually serve as dual edged sword – protect our copyrights as well as BE NOTIFIED when someone uses it without permission!

Step 1 – Install Plugin

Although Feed Footer plugin was created a while back and haven’t been updated to latest version – I use it on all my blogs and it is part of standard “Expert WordPress” blog installer package.

Simply install this plugin and you will be provided with 10 fields you can use to provide Text, Ads or HTML content to copyright protect your blog posts. Those fields will be auto inserted into your RSS Feed on rotating basis for all new posts only and since RSS is what scrapers always use to steal your content – it will show up on those “splogs”.

You can use it to both add ads as well as copyrights message with link to your blog. I recommend using some unique key phrase that you can use for easily identifying when your feed was used outside of your blog.

See the copyright message in image below that is added to my RSS Feed:

As you can see I have a unique phrase “Copyright WordPress Web 2.0 Spot-Er” auto-inserted into ALL MY posts in blog RSS Feed and now I can move to step 2…

Step 2 – Allow Google Monitor The Web For Me

Hey, Google is good for something besides doing searching!

All you have to do now is use your unique phrase, “Copyright WordPress Web 2.0 Spot-Er” with quotes to create a Google Alert and each time it shows up anywhere – you will get email from Google! See image below

Now you just let the Big Guy to let you know anytime your content might is stolen And since we are on topic of Google Alert – you don’t have to limit yourself to monitoring only your copyright’s message.

You can use it to monitor for your niche specific phrase to be alerted anytime new story comes out, monitor entire market to be “the man or woman to go to” for latest information in your Niche! Make yourself “The Source Of Latest Info” and you will be rewarded.

Conclusion

No matter which method you choose to use – it is important to use at least something to protect your biggest asset, content you have created!

When you write your blog you already trying to integrate your more important keywords into each of your posts (I do hope you do so), but why earn pennies when you can pull some real cash?

I don’t use AdSense on my blog as you can see but in this post I will show you completely “white hat” method to discover What Keywords will pull most expensive ads into your content and share a free tool you can use to discover them in a matter of minutes. This very same technique can be easily used for a profitable niche research if you are in that stage of your market research.

Know What Keywords Pay Well Before You Create ANY Content In ANY Niche Market!

And before I move into discussing on how find more profitable keywords I think I need to explain Why. AdSense is becoming more and more expensive and advertisers becoming increasingly smarter. It is very common for advertisers now to target very specific keywords that will trigger their ad for a simple reason – it more corresponds to their product and they find less competition while doing it. They also spend less money by not using broad search but exact phrase match in AdSense. And guess what – two very similar key phrases can cost quite different amount. I’m going to use an example which is pulled on July 8 and is correct for this time frame (these prices do change …).

Let’s say you are in credit niche and creating a post on credit cards. You can simple try to place as many combination’s of your main keywords but did you know how much advertisers are willing to pay for different key phrases to trigger display of their ad? Here is an example:

“visa credit card machines” – $18.48 – $27.72

“visa credit cards” – $13.17 – $17.07

So which one of these key phrases would YOU like to target? I think its pretty much a no-brainer … You can always hope that “by accident” you stumble onto “visa credit card machines” and pull that ad or you can KNOW about it and optimize for it! Mentioning this specific key phrase can double your earnings from a single click! Advertisers are willing to pay a lot more for a more targeted key phrase as it gives them higher conversion and optimizing for those key phrases simply means more income to you.

Similar concept can be applied to niche research. Knowing which key phrases pull more expensive ads to your content site or blog can easily mean more income for you. That concept described very well in Red Hot Niches Free Report, which I highly recommend you read.

Before you get all excited I do have to provide a simple warning. These examples can’t be taken at their nominal value but more as a general guidance on their potential profitability. Google provides an option for AdWords advertisers to specify a totally different price for “Content Network” but profitability potential in correlation to each other will still remain true. What that means is that click on ad on content network (your blog) will get less money per click then shown above but content optimized for “visa credit card machines” will still pull more expensive ad.

Prices I provided above are pulled directly from Google AdWords Keywords tool and you can do your research using that tool but it is extremely time consuming, as you will have to discover the exact keywords to use and then their prices. There is a lot better way to accomplish this task and that is what this post was all about – a FREE tool you can use to get whole bunch of keywords with their prices and demand (search volume). See screen shot below:

Two minutes was all it took me to get the results. Visit this site to get the tool and its usage guidelines. Author created video tutorial that explains in great detail proper usage and you can take it with you anywhere you go. Now you have an opportunity to create blog content that sucks in AdSense cash and actually get paid for those clicks. And best part – it’s FREE.
