2012 London Olympic Logo – Aim at Web 2.0 Generation Created Scandal
In attempt to generate more interest in upcoming Olympics London organizing committee spent $796.000 to create a flashy logo targeting younger generation. Statement by Lord Coe, the chairman of committee that cost was covered by private sector and doesn’t affect tax payers did little to ward off the scandal around it.
According to Sun “…. Olympics bosses were left squirming with embarrassment after an epilepsy group reported 12 cases of people collapsing through looking at it. Epilepsy Action warned that 23,000 mainly young people in the UK were at risk from the TV and internet version. They suffer from the photosensitive form of epilepsy and flickering images can trigger fits.”
Common people! Are we getting too sensitive? I have to admit that personally I don’t like the logo or the video ad, accompanying it and can’t believe that someone paid nearly a $800K for it but not to the point to protest it! At the moment of this post 40617 people have signed petition to change the logo. Quite a few people assuming that it has been released only couple days ago.
